Photo: Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports Mack Brown reiterated earlier in the week that the team’s goal of winning a Big 12 Conference Championship was still alive.  In front of a crowd of 95,248 fans at Darrell K. Royal -Texas Memorial Stadium the Texas Longhorns ended a 5-game losing streak against Kansas State on Saturday night, keeping the goal alive.  The Longhorns relied on better defense and the legs of heralded running back Johnathan Gray, who had his best game as a Longhorn tonight, in the 31-21 win over Bill Snyder’s Wildcats. David Ash started at quarterback after missing last week’s game against Ole Miss due to suffering concussion-like symptoms sustained in the BYU game.  After a 3 and out opening drive, Texas would get on the board with a 27-yard field goal by David Ash on the team’s next possession.  Then with 3:06 left in the first quarter Ash threw a 63 yard strike to Kendall Sanders and the Longhorns would take a 10-0 lead.  Johnathan Gray ran for a 21 yard touchdown la...

The Tailgater college football week 4 picks

It was a rough third week for us (excepting Zach, who did very well). The results brought separation back to standings that had tightened up after the first two weeks of play. Here’s how each of us fared: Zach Bigalke: 8-2 Matt Strobl: 4-6 John Mitchell: 2-8 In an effort to turn things around, collectively speaking, we take on a slate that lacks marquee matchups but does offer...

Kansas State Staffer Takes Ball To Face Like A Champ

ESPN’s Sportscenter may want you to think that this play should be included in their NOT Top 10 list.  This should be included in the Top 10 Boss Moments because when Texas quarterback David Ash threw this ball away and drilled a K-State staffer in the face he took it like a champ. Keys to the Game: Kansas State @ Texas

Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports The Kansas State Wildcats (2-1) come to DKR for a Saturday night kick on ABC to face the reeling Texas Longhorns (1-2).  Kansas State has historically owned the Longhorns, with the last UT win coming in 2003. Forecast models currently disagree about whether the rain will end early tomorrow or continue to Sunday, so the playing surface may be a bit slick...

Big 12 superlatives: Week 4

Let's hand out some awards for Week 4 in the Big 12. Best offensive performance: Johnathan Gray, RB, Texas. Gray logged a career-high 141 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Longhorns to a 31-21 win over Kansas State. The sophomore is a balanced back, but showcased enough power behind him on Saturday to remind me a little bit of another famous No. 32 in burnt orange: Cedric...

Week 4 thoughts from around the Big 12

Time for five things I think I think from Week 4 in the Big 12. The Big 12's national reputation is taking a big hit. After West Virginia's loss to Maryland on Saturday, the Big 12 dropped to 2-5 this season against AQ-conference opponents and BYU. You earn your reputation in nonconference play, and the Big 12 has struck out with opportunities this year against LSU, BYU...
