So, with that pain staking year behind us, lets look to the 2012 season which is rapidly spiraling towards us. First lets take a look at the returning players that will be key to the teams success as well as new blood that can help bring some new strength and vigor into this team.,
Key Returning Players to Watch:
I believe David Ash and Case McCoy will both see playing time. Unfortunately, neither of these players have the ability to ever make it to the pros. It is pretty tough when you are under the shadow of your older and more talented NFL brother (as in the case with....well, Case). Nevertheless, these are the guys that will be under center and hopefully they will rise to the occasion this year.
Year G/GS Rush Yards Avg. TD Long 2011 10/7 172 742 4.3 5 27 Brown was UT's top recruit in 2011. He is quicker then quick who can cut in and out and bust loose in a hurry. Although his freshman year he managed to gain over 742 yards, he was hindered by a toe injury that benched him for three games. Although the injury held him back from his full potential, Brown should be in full force this year.
Year G/GS Rush Yards Avg. TD Long 2011 10/0 72 463 6.4 5 51 Bergeron is like a tank at 6'1" and 240 pounds and stepped up last year when he needed to and exploded with some amazing numbers in a couple of key games. He will be a huge part of the backfield.
The third back that will bring the the Longhorn backfield to completion is a newcomer.
Johnathan Gray was the nation's top running back recruit in the 2012 recruiting class and was second over all. Gray may become known as the most talented out of the three. Gray was the top running back in Texas high school history blasting the record books with his explosion style running. Leading his high school alma mater, Aledo High School, to three straight state titles. He is going to be fun to watch. Watch the attached video, it will give you chills. Remember the video that you will watch is only through his sophomore year. He is truly incredible to say the least.
The offensive line only lost one starter and even though last year they were young and inexperienced, this year they have seasoned a bit and with any luck and just plain hard nosed football, the line will be tough and help the backfield out.
The Longhorn defense is going to be hard to beat this year. Although last year was tough, by the end of the season the defense had grown to be one of the best if not the best in the Big 12. This year they have seven of the returning 11 coming back. Look out offenses in the Big 12 and beyond, the Longhorns are stacked.
The 2012 Texas Longhorn Schedule and Scotty's Predictions:
I predict that the Texas Longhorns are going to be a surprisingly good team this year. If the quarterbacks can be sharp and if the line will open up holes for these incredible backs Texas is going to score their fair share of points. I believe that the defense is going to be very aggressive and the result will be a great team effort that will help bring the fans some much needed satisfaction.
