Connor Brewer, a redshirt freshman quarterback, has decided to transfer from the University of Texas. Brewer was given his unconditional release from the scholarship. "I want to thank everyone at The University of Texas the coaching staff, the fans and especially my teammates for a great experience here in Austin over the last 18 months," Brewer said in a statement. "In particular, I want to thank Coach Brown for giving me the opportunity to play football at The University of Texas. It was a dream come true, and I have loved every minute of being a Texas Longhorn." Brewer, who is from Scottsdale, Ariz., won three state titles in high school. The 6-2 Berwer threw for more than 3,000 yards and 43 touchdowns as a senior. He never got a chance to play at Texas, as he was buried on the depth chart behind David Ash, Case McCoy and was outplayed by freshman Tyrone Swoopes in the spring game. "We appreciate everything Connor has brought to our program," Texas head coach Mack Brown said. "He is a tremendous young man and is a great teammate and student. We hate to see him leave, but at the same time we understand his reasons. We wish him the best of luck in the future."
