In the end the parting between Jeff Casteel and West Virginia was amicable and that’s really all that’s important. The Mountaineers had known for some time that Casteel wanted out and Dana Holgorsen started extending feelers to possible replacements in October, while at the same time, trying to convince Casteel to stay.   Why Casteel chose to leave has been discussed extensively and no one but Jeff will ever know for sure but I have to believe his reason for leaving was that he wanted to be a head coach--and most of all Casteel wanted to be the head coach at West Virginia. Casteel’s departure from WVU was inevitable the moment he understood he would never have the chance to run the Mountaineer program he loves. So he decided to move on and hopefully improve his chances of being the head coach somewhere else. And who can blame him?
