◊ Take CFN writer Phil Guidry's spin on the Jared Odrick situation:
"Penn State defensive tackle Jared Odrick is no flea. He was cited for allegedly fighting with three Penn State students and another man outside an apartment building. If this story is true, he took on - count em - four guys! Not that we condone violence in any way, but if a football player - especially a D.T. on a Rose Bowl team - is gonna take on somebody, at least four-on-one is sporting. It's as if he was reportedly trying to change that "Big Ten is weak" stereotype in one rowdy night."
How could I not agree with that? Like Guidry, I don't condone Odrick's actions, but it's about time someone in the MSM realizes that these guys are just kids–– really, really big and talented kids. Sometimes, a fight isn't part of a "larger trend," or "growing trouble" in a football program. Sometimes, a fight is just what it is. I'm not saying CFN was part of the crowd that pounded on Joe Paterno and Penn State the past few years. They have actually looked at the situation, as always, from an objective, reasoned perspective. This case is no different. Too bad the rest of the MSM can't take a cue from that.
