Former MSU recruit Myles White was recently signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. Michigan State wide receivers were nowhere to be found in 2012. With all the drop passes they had in the past season, you would think head coach Mark Dantonio used cornerbacks to play the wideout position. It was like a domino effect with all the drop passes the MSU receivers manufactured, because it wasn’t just one player, but all players were dropping the ball, one after another.  MSU’s leading receiver in 2012 was freshman Keith Mumphery, who finished the year with only 42 receptions and one touchdown. Those are abysmal numbers from your number one wideout of any team, but especially from a BIG TEN program who just finished first in their division the year before in 2011, and were also a win away from being in the Rose Bowl. As a current student at MSU I have to admit those are numbers you have to scratch your head about if you’re Dantonio, especially when you could of had a guy like Myles White leading the pack. Who is Myles White you may ask? Well thats a good question. Born in Livonia, Michigan, White played high school football at Livonia’s Adlai E. Stevenson High School.  A star player coming out of high school, Dantonio recruited White to play for the Spartans. White was recruited for his speed, quickness, and the ability to catch the deep ball. While White was in high school, he was one of the top-prep hurdlers in the country. White mentioned in an article on the Journal Sentinel online that at the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics, White raced next to the kid ranked first in the nation, who happened to also be current Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. Below is a link of White during a spring practice at MSU in 2009. 2009 MSU Spring Practice-Myles White If you didn’t notice, few of the players who White was matched up against and made them look lost out there on the field, were Johnny Adams (5), Chris L. Rucker (29), and Trenton Robinson (39); all who were at least two year defensive back starters for MSU and a few of them now play in the NFL. White was suppose to be a valuable asset in the MSU offense, but on November 22, 2009, White and 14 other members of the MSU football team were caught on video surveillance fighting at a campus residence hall. White eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault. The same night as the brawl, White also was charged with public urination. The article from the Journal Sentinel online said that White mentioned the line at a club was too long, so White relieved himself in dark alley. As only a freshman, White was later dismissed from the team. After going to Northwest Mississippi Community College for a year, White then transferred to Louisiana Tech where he played wide receiver on the other side of future NFL star, and fourth round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2013 draft, Quinton Patton. During their senior year, both White and Patton combined for 160 receptions for 2,110 yards and 19 touch downs. White had 56 of those receptions with 718 of those yards and 6 touchdowns. White was a great compliment receiver to Patton, but with the numbers he put up in 2012, he could have easily been the Spartans number one wideout. Although he wasn’t drafted in the past 2013 NFL Draft, White was still signed by the Green Bay Packers in free agency. The Louisiana Tech receiver ran a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash. If he had been invited to the NFL scouting combine, that time would have tied him for sixth at his position. But if there is one team in the NFL that knows about hidden talent in the undrafted rookie free agency pool, its GM Ted Thompson and the front office of the Green Bay Packers. I am all about integrity when it comes down to formatting a football team, but Dantonio needs to look more into forgiving a persons actions before coming to a solution. With the way the MSU wide receivers performed last season, I think the Sparty faithful would have been able to forget about the brawl that occurred four years ago, that is if they already haven’t. With that said, I wasn’t lucky enough to watch White play for my University, but I will be looking forward to maybe drafting White and watching him play on my future fantasy football team. As long as Green Bay has a guy named Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball, all possibilities are endless when it comes to his targets. And last time I checked, the Packers were in desperate need of a down field player, and that’s what White has been his whole career.
