Instead the team could go with a six man bench and one less reliever, the most likely casualty would be Darren O'Day. This is how the rule five process works; O'Day would have to be placed on waivers, if a team claimed him they would be subject to all the rule five obligation but if no team claimed him he would have to be offered back to the Angels and if they accepted him back they would have to make room for him on the 40 man roster which is currently full while paying the Mets $25,000.
