The majority of Georgia fans seem to be please with or, at least, supportive of Mark Richt's handling of Atlanta radio personality Chuck Oliver's question Saturday night.
To me, there was nothing wrong with the question. In fact, there are few questions that are off-limits for a public figure like Coach Richt who is paid millions of dollars, in part, to compensate for the scrutiny inherent with his position.
That said, Chuck Oliver knows better. I understand that Oliver is a former coach and he was probably a player. He knows that immediately after a big game the emotional atmosphere is highly charged – to say the least. Was Oliver seeking a reasoned answer to a legitimate question? No, there will be many opportunities leading up to the bowl game to get that answer.
Chuck Oliver's question was about self-promotion.
Chuck Oliver's question was about inserting media into the story.

Electing not to spike the ball with 15 seconds remaining, Richt drew up a fade for Aaron Murray to throw. The ball...

As Georgia scurried in vain toward the line of scrimmage, the sheer magnitude of its loss to Alabama was written on the faces of the fans behind the end zone.
With the down-to-the-wire SEC Championship game defeat, it was immediately clear the team would not be playing Notre Dame for the BCS Championship, which would have been a first in the Mark Richt era. However, although it...
