The biggest and best news of the night was that John Maine had a very good night. Maine struggled for most of the spring as he tried to figure out his post surgery mechanics and shake off the rust from not pitching since August of 2008. After Ollie had a miserable performance in his first outing the Mets rotation truly needed Maine to solidify his position. Maine pitched five innings allowing two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out five. His only flaw was the solo homerun....The pen on paper looked flawless and in the first game of the season lived up to those expectations, but haven't been as solid since then. While there haven't been the huge meltdowns like last years pen they have been bleeding. Tonight both Sean Green and Bobby Parnell allowed one run each.
