Week 3 is going to give us our first major shakeups of the season in The Beardown College Football Top 25 Poll. Work has been hectic today so not much analysis, just know that I should have waited until week 3 to make my Top 25 predictions since a good portion of the teams I have had in here didn't play too well yesterday. It could be worse, I could have had Michigan in my Top 25 (USA Today Coaches Poll).
1(1). USC Trojans
Number one again and not only furthering themselves from the Pac-10 but the rest of the nation as well. They have, by far, played the toughest non-conference schedule of the rest of the Top 25 (other than ECU). USC is the real deal...until they blow an easy Pac-10 game sometime later in the year (2003 - California, 2006 - Oregon State, 2007 - Stanford, 2008 - Arizona?)
2(2). Oklahoma Sooners
It may have been a lowly Pac-10 school but 55-14 is convincing in anyone's book.
3(3). Florida Gators
-Off-
4(6). Missouri Tigers
They leapfrogged AN Ohio State University and Georgia to take the up for grabs 3 spot. I don't care if it was Nevada Jeremy Maclin and Chase Daniel are just too good. Big XII play will be exciting this year.
5(5). Georgia Bulldogs
I considered moving them up with AN Ohio State University's loss, but bottom line was 14-7 over SoCar wasn't as impressive as Mizzou's Saturday performance. Unluckily for them, a Win over ASU next week won't do as much to launch their season as they may have hoped. They need the teams ahead of them to fall and spotless SEC play to make it to the Big Game......

The only way ASU is winning against Georgia is if they underestimate the Devils. I've said since last year that the Sun Devils are vastly overrated. They lost at home to a 23 point dog. The Devils OLine and D were suspect coming into this season and allowing UNLV 345 yards and 13 unanswered points meanwhile letting Carpenter get sacked twice is precisely why ASU bit off more than it could chew with the Dawgs. Georgia is probably overrated too, but I don't see Georgia losing to UNLV or anyone of their calibur, ever. Georgia almost lost to SoCar but that was the first BCS team they've played this year and they were ranked before losing to Vandy.
-
Georgia's main problem is one word: Penalties. In the first three games, they have amassed 31 penalties for 252 yards. That's what hurt them the most against SoCar, and that could end up ruining what should have been a great season for them.
-
It's amazing to think that a team with such perfect records of discipline has had such penalty issues. If only we could have seen it coming based on the 8+ offseason arrests of Bulldog players.
-
Right on! beardown. Penalties are part of the game its also a reflection of their coaching. They will get out coached Sat.......ASU wins 45-41
-
The reason I didn't mention their disciplinary problems is because I mistakenly thought it was too obvious to require mentioning. How do you get penalties with that kind of frequency? A lack of discipline, and they've shown that both on and off the field. Still, AZ State has nothing in the tank, as obviated by the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. Even with an average of 10+ penalties a game, there's no way AZ State improves their record this week. UGA wins 31-7, and that's only if penalties all-but give AZ State a touchdown.

And Freeagent, go f*** your mother again.

you are such a loser. go away.
-
secforever, you r a madman! Do you truly believe your own spew an SEC team beating a PAC 10 team on the road 31-7 your an idiot. Georgia isnt all that great their good but thats about it. Their secondary is suspect and Erickson and Carpenter will take full advantage of that.
-
And yet, they face a team that lost AT HOME to UNLV. Given the epic failure that was that loss, I don't see how anyone could possibly take Arizona State seriously, and that's reflected in my 24 point projected margin of victory for the Dawgs. Say what you will, but I just don't see the Dawgs ever losing to the Runnin' Rebels, no matter how bad things get out east.

I admit, I was wrong about the outcome of the Georgia-Azzzzzzzz State game, but it's not like your vaunted Pac-10 team losing 27-10 is much worse than losing 31-7. Face it: The Pac-10 blows this year, with the possible exception of USC.

My thoughts on college football (plus Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 raffle)
To all you college football fans who wake up Saturday mornings like I do wondering how the season is going to unfold we got a taste last weekend of what makes the game so special. That's why I'm glued to the TV each week because you don't know that a team like UCLA can play with Tennessee or that a Utah team can show up and do what they did in the Big House. You never...
The Best College Football Players You May Not Know
We know all about the Tebow's, Chase Daniel's and Darren McFadden's of the college football world, but what about other, less heralded players who put up numbers similar to some Heisman contenders? Let's take a look at some of these athletes.
Recruits pouring into Mizzou, top juniors returning
One of the greatest nine days in Mizzou football history culminated in yet another top recruit committing to the Tigers and quarterback Chase Daniel, among others, pledging to return for one more year.
What Kansas-Missouri Means For The Heisman
Who would have thought that Saturday's game between Kansas and Missouri would be so vital to the national title race, not to mention the Heisman?
The team implications are obvious. The winner will go on to the Big 12 championship tilt and will probably have a shot to earn a slot in the BCS title game.
But what does the game mean for the Heisman?
No...
Calling It For Tebow
Darren McFadden is not going to win the Heisman. He will likely be the runner up for the second time, joining Charlie Justice of North Carolina and Glenn Davis of Army as the only two players to accomplish that feat.
Barring a performance-for-the-ages by Chase Daniel in a win against Oklahoma on Saturday, this trophy is going to go to Tim Tebow by a solid margin.
2009 NFL Draft Prospects: Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri
Chase Daniel, QB,
Positives: Super productive in college. Finds his way to passing lanes very well despite lack of height. Daniel has a very accurate arm and can make most of the throws required of a West Coast offense?s QB. Makes good decisions, and makes them ...
Alamo Bowl Happenings
In a game that was the most lobsided point spread this bowl season (Mizzou -12.5), the Northwestern Wildcats are currently holding their own against Chase Daniel and Missouri. I was flying back to the West Coast yesterday, and didn't get a chance to do an Alamo Bowl Preview post...so I'll just direct you to Lake The Posts, an excellent blog dedicated to Northwestern Football.LTP...
Missouri Tigers Clearly The Cream Of The Spread Offense
After the first 5 weeks of the 2008 college football season, it's obvious that Missouri's spread offense lead by Chase Daniel is the most exciting and diverse in college football.Through four games, Daniel has completed 101-of-133 passes for 1,412 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception. Not to ...
The best Heisman candidate you'll never hear about.
Okay, Tim Tebow is good. McFadden has it going on. Chase Daniel, Pat White, and Colt Brennen even have what it takes to win the Heisman. However, when I compare these guys to UCF's Kevin Smith, they don't even measure up.
Rivals Early 2007 Football Predictions
NORTH1. Nebraska (9-5, 6-2): The Cornhuskers must overhaul their defensive front four, but they got a big break with quarterback Sam Keller transferring in from Arizona State. That should make the loss of All-Big 12 quarterback Zac Taylor relatively painless.2. Missouri (8-5, 4-4): Chase Daniel emerg...
