In all his wisdom, he gave Coach Gill the most favorable contract in the Big 12 and a guaranteed $10 million dollars over 5 years to a coach who was only making $500,000 at Buffalo.

At one time head coach Turner Gill was the talk of the town. The former head coach of the Buffalo Bulls took the MAC team to the league championship. Even the Buffalo Bills were rumored to have an interest in Gill, but instead he would replace Mark Mangino, who was fired in 2009 amid allegations he mistreated players.
