TEAMS:
Travis Wilson runs in for a touchdown in the Utes 70-7 win over Weber State This week the UCLA football team will travel to take on the Utah Utes. With Cal, Stanford, and Oregon in the coming weeks, it will be important to play in the moment and not look ahead. If they Bruins don’t come out with an intense focus, they could be upset in a conference and division game. Utah is 3-1, their sole loss coming against Oregon State, a 51-48 loss in overtime. They have a balanced offense and a capable defense that is riding high after a 4th quarter interception cemented a win against BYU. Their offense is captained by Travis Wilson, who has thrown for over 1,100 yards and 9 TDs this season. His favorite target is Dres Anderson, who has 404 yards and 3 TDs so far and made it on to the Biletnikoff watch list. Oh, and let’s not forget Wilson can use his legs too, having already run for 5 TDs and 250 yards. This will be a key to keep in mind in the red zone and not let him scramble in for 6. Wilson and Anderson will be looking to exploit the young Bruins secondary and throw the ball all over. Sophomores Fabian Moreau and Ishmael Adams will need to step up this game and prove they can run with the best of them. I expect Moreau in particular to have a big game, given his added experience from. The Bruins will need to contain Wilson on the D-line and take away his options in the passing game. If the secondary can take away his options for the first 3 or 4 seconds of the play, the D-line will have enough time to break through and get to the quarterback. On the offensive side of the ball, you don’t fix what ain’t broke. Hundley needs to keep finding Shaq Evans, picking up first downs with his legs, and handing the ball to James. The Bruins should come out of this game with a comfortable win, but be wary. Utah will come fired up for a top 15 conference match up, and if UCLA is looking to the next few weeks, they might just get upset on the road by the Utes.
