Today, the new pre-season USA TODAY Sports Coaches’ Poll was released and it has LSU atop of the bunch, with Alabama and USC nipping at their heels. Get ready for some football, folks.
“We are fortunate to be at a place that allows you to compete for that (No. 1) spot,” LSU coach Les Miles told USA TODAY Sports in a statement. “We recognize that it (No. 1 ranking) is more of a reflection of a body of work and understand that right now, it’s a spot that we hold and not one that has been earned. It’s a position that we enjoy. Now we have to go out and play in order to keep it.”

LSU's season opener is nearly a month away and already defensive end Sam Montgomery is feeling ''a sense of urgency'' among the Tigers to settle unfinished business.

Blue expects offensive explosion
Alfred Blue is one of several quality running backs on campus at LSU. The junior standout understands that the expectations of an upperclassmen can be intense and Blue welcomes that challenge. With day one of fall camp in the books, Blue believes the Tigers are on the verge of something big.
Ford confident in LSU backfield
Michael Ford arrived on the LSU campus as a wide eyed freshman four years ago. Now a veteran of the SEC wars, Ford is excited about the Tigers' depth at running back for the up coming season. Ford credits LSU running backs' coach Frank Wilson for his maturation as both a player and a person.
Reid believes secondary will improve
The LSU secondary proved to be one of the most athletic defensive backfields in the country. Junior safety Eric Reid believes that the talented group of play makers can improve on last season's successes.

LSU running back Alfred Blue showed some flashes of athletic brilliance last fall during the Tigers' run to the BCS National Championship game.
