PHOENIX -- Maybe the Davey O'Brien Award ceremony should be held in the Valley, too. Three of the top quarterbacks in the nation, including top Heisman candidate Andrew Luck of Stanford, will play in the Fiesta and Insight bowl games here this season.
Luck and pass-happy Brandon Weeden will oppose each other in the Fiesta Bowl, when No. 4 Stanford meets No. 3 Oklahoma State on Jan. 2. Luck opened the season as the Heisman favorite and has done nothing to diminish his chances, breaking John Elways school record for career touchdown passes while leading the Cardinal to an 11-1 season.
Oklahoma State also is 11-1, and some believe that either Fiesta team would be a better opponent for No. 1 LSU in BCS championship game than No. 2 Alabama, which played and lost an overtime game at home to LSU on Nov. 5.
We certainly wanted to play in that (BCS title game)," Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. "Let's put that to rest. Our team is very excited in being in the Fiesta Bowl."
