Virginia Tech football player Cody Journell has come up with an interesting way to avoid paying a restaurant tab. The kicker reportedly cleared out the Blacksburg Buffalo Wild Wings location on Thursday night after dousing the establishment with a can of pepper-spray. Yes, pepper spray!Journell was apparently at the eatery, along with some of his friends, to watch the Virginia Tech-Virginia basketball game.At around 9:00 PM, Journell reportedly released the aforementioned pepper spray, which forced guests and staff outside the restaurant for nearly an hour. People were crying, coughing and throwing up from the effects of the spray. Some of the workers lost money in unpaid tips because of the incident. However, Journell claims it was an accident. “Stuff likes this happens,” Journell said, “Accidents happen.”According to Journell, he was describing to his friend how her small can of pepper-spray worked, holding the key-chain sized can in his hand. As he passed it back to her, it was triggered and released.Journell then immediately sought out a manager to explain the situation and admit fault for the accident. However, one server in particular believes the senior-to-be may have done the dirty deed on purpose.“I think he meant to do it,” the server admitted, based on observation, “But I don’t think he knew it was going to have the effect that it had.” Buffalo Wild Wings isn't currently pressing charges. In December 2011, Journell was arrested after he and two others obtained stolen marijuana from a fellow Virginia Tech athlete. Journell spent one week in jail before being released on a $100,000 secured bond. He was suspended from the Hokies program until his legal case was resolved. In May 2012, the court found him guilty of misdemeanor trespassing and sentenced him to 100 hours of community service.Journell knocked home 20 out of 25 field goal attempts for Tech in 2012. Via Collegiate Times
