Former Texas A&M outside linebacker Von Miller impressed scouts at the NFL Scouting Combine a couple weeks ago when he posted a 4.53 forty time. National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson reports that Miller improved that with a 4.49 time today at the Texas A&M pro day.
The Butkus Award winner last season as the nation’s top linebacker, Miller is projected to be at least a top 10 pick, if not the top 5. He is a phenomenal edge pass rusher with his speed and quickness and can play the run just as well as any linebacker in the draft. Many have projected him to be a fit for the Arizona Cardinals due to the lack of production. Current Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter also is expected to be released at some point this offseason.
Today’s forty time only solidifies the Miller as a top 10 pick in my opinion. Miller’s 4.49 time today ties Illinois LB Martez Wilson’s forty time at the combine, the best time among all linebackers. Look for team’s that run 3-4 defensive schemes to show interest in Miller, as his pass rushing skills make him best suited in that type of defense. As we saw last season with the Steelers Lamarr Woodley and the Packers Clay Matthews, a quick outside linebacker who can consistently rush the passer can make a 3-4 defense that much better.
