I'm going to make the preview a little different from here on out. Winning and losing no longer matters, so I'm going to concentrate on the first and second year Seahawks and their goals. Basically while you watch the game (or look at highlights, box scores, etc.) this is the type of stuff you should look for.
Josh WilsonGood Signs: physical play, sticking with his matchup, signs of playmaking ability.Bad Signs: getting beat, getting abused due to size issues, getting targeted.
Lawrence JacksonGood Signs: lots of different pass rush moves, getting to Cassell.Bad Signs: disappearing
Baraka Atkins (actually a 3rd year man but with enough potential to stick here)Good signs: hit on quarterback, good first stepBad signs: disappearing
Brandon MebaneGood Signs: being alive, healthyBad Signs: N/A
John CarlsonGood Signs: getting open, being targetedBad Signs: drops, although it's not really that big of a deal, and there is a difference between a drop and a bad pass/good defense
Steve VallosGood Signs: any semblance whatsoever of pass blockingBad Signs: same-old, same-old
Mansfield Wrotto-(keep an eye on this guy)Good Signs: flattening opponents, looking competent in zone blocking schemesBad Signs: looking lost, getting beat on pass rush/blitz
If all these guys play well and we still lose, I still consider it a victory. We are playing for next year, folks. Send in the clowns.
