Some criminals throughout history have also been some of the smartest human beings to walk the earth. Al Capone is immortalized as the most notorious gangster in American history. On his business card, he was a used furniture dealer. On the streets of Chicago, he was the boss. He didn’t accumulate a net worth of over $100 million by accident. He was brilliant at gambling, stealing and bootlegging. Capone makes this former West Virginia football player look like a wet match in a dark cave. Korey Harris was a sophomore linebacker for the Mountaineers until being booted off the team for a robbery charge. According to reports, Harris and two others entered a Morgantown home and held the residents at gun point. The three men got away with cash and electronics before being tracked down by police. A huge flaw in their master plan was displayed prominently on the sweatpants Harris was wearing. The residents noticed his bright yellow No. 96 West Virginia issued apparel and assumed it was his uniform number. And they were right! Harris is currently being held in a North Carolina Regional Jail on a bond set at $75,000. His bio is no longer listed on the WVU website, and his name on the roster has been removed. When asked about the incident, West Virginia’s director of football operations had no comment on individuals who are not associated with the West Virginia program. I’m not sure this amount of stupidity has been achieved during the offseason. We are reminded of the juvenile suspect’s girlfriend who tried to break her boyfriend out of a detention center after he allegedly robbed Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops’ house. Her tool of choice? Hedge trimmers.Or what about the Florida linebacker who was arrested for barking at a police dog? I think the uniform number on the pants during a robbery still takes the cake.
