Southern Methodist Senior Quarterback J.J McDermott has literally played like a yo-yo this year. McDermott was forced to step up this season with the absence of starting QB Kyle Padron. J.J has had some games where he’s been amazing, throwing for multiple touchdowns and over 350+ yards, then he’s had some pretty bad games where he’s thrown for over 200+ and a pick, THEN he has a game like Week 9.

SMU fans were furious with McDermott in Week 8 when he threw 2 picks and only 173 yards. He was supposed to redeem himself Week 9 against Tulsa, but somehow he managed to do worse. McDermott was 17-37 with 180 yards and 4 interceptions. He had a 65.2 QB rating, and on top of that had 5 rushing attempts for -33 yards.  How hard is it to be the SMU quarterback? All you need to do it hand the ball off to the beast, Zach Line, and you’ll be okay. McDermott has 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on the year, but I think it’s time to bring in the backup Stephen Kaiser and don’t give J.J a chance to throw another pick. I don’t care if the backup doesn’t spell his name right (Steven), it’s time for McDermott to take a seat after 2 consecutive awful performances.
