Well it looks like Devine will play vs. UNLV this weekend. This is some good news after a sloooowwww bye week! I just hope that he doesn’t over exert himself this weekend and saves himself for the Big East games since this UNLV game should be more like a scrimmage. But like we’ve seen in the Big East all season, we can’t take any game for granted. Here is a report from WV Metro News breaking down Coach Stew’s Monday press conference.

Noel Devine has made progress with his toe injury since hurting it against LSU back on Septeber 25th and WVU head coach Bill Stewart says his speedy running back should see the field on Saturday.

Devine’s injury has been diagnosed as a bone bruise on his right big toe and he has been getting treatment on it throughout the off week. He’s been limited in practice because of the injury and Stewart predicts to see his dynamic running back in the back field against UNLV.

“He’s doing a lot better…He’s had three treatments today already, he’s just in on his third one. He came in this morning – after class he came back – after lunch he came back again,” stated a proud head coach. “He wants to get healthy just as much as the next guy. He bounced around a little bit in practice and didn’t do as much as he wanted to.”

Fans can expect to see Devine on the field for the majority of the UNLV game, but there is still a slim chance the Heisman candidate won’t play. If that happens, expect slot receivers Jock Sanders and Tavon Austin to stay at their current positions and the backup running backs to carry to load.

“With Trey Johnson, with Shawne Alston, with Ryan Clarke – certainly Matt Lindamood back there blocking as a full back – I think we have more than enough to get through, but to bring Tavon around – to bring Jock around in the slot like we’ve done in the past that wouldn’t be something out of the ordinary also,” said Stewart. “Right now I do not and we have not moved either nine or one back there full time.”

In the LSU game – when Devine got hurt – the Mountaineers used their jumbo package with Clarke at running back and Lindamood at full back. Stewart likes using this style of play when Devine isn’t in the game to wear down the defense. On the season Devine has run for 391 yards on 87 carries with two touchdowns and if everything goes according to plan Devine should increase those number against the Mountaineers’ final non-conference opponent.

“Hopefully tomorrow and Wednesday he’ll get back on track,” said an excited Stewart. “I really anticipate him – in a fairness playing Saturday and play a lot.”
