(Photo: Michael Kossett) It’s been a long time since I sat in a press box and looked out over a horizon and basically saw miles of endless miles of a flat level plane of green.  So this is where the Arizona State Sun Devils have landed to to take on the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois.  The corn fields and vast areas of trees are a distinct contrast from the mountainous region of the Pac-12, and so was the 72 degree game time temperature.  And with the pleasant temperatures in Central Illinois, the Sun Devils came into this game with a quiet confidence, a slow but deliberate swagger.  A wry grin on most of them as they stretched pre-game.  But it didn’t take long to get that grin smacked off their faces, and smacked hard. After ASU elected to receive the ball on the coin toss, they promptly went three and out with only one of the play...
