James Casey pitched in the minor leagues before turning to college football. He once played seven positions in one game at Rice. If he'd returned for his junior season with the Owls, his coach might have acted on the idea of switching him to quarterback. Heck, for kicks, Casey threw the javelin at Rice and actually scored for the track team.

Tuesday Afternoon Draft Headlines
Rice sophomore utility back James Casey has declared for the draft. At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, the 24-year-old former minor league baseball player projects as an H-Back/tight end prospect in the NFL and could go as high as round two.
Auburn junior CB Jerraud Powers will also declare for the draft. Powers looks to be a mid to late round selection.
