Fantasy Baseball Effects Of The Nate McLouth - Atlanta Braves Trade

Wednesday night, Nate McLouth was traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Atlanta Braves for three prospects - right-hander Charlie Morton, centerfielder Gorkys Hernandez and lefty Jeff Locke. McLouth hasn’t been quite as awesome in the first two months of 2009 as he was in 2008. His current 5×5 numbers on the year are .256/9/34/27/7 versus [...]

Why Pittsburgh Pirates fans should have no faith left in their team and the people that run it

What is the fastest way to alienate an already bitter fan-base? Trade your best young player. Trade a guy who made the all-star team last year, won a gold glove, is still only 27 years old, and the guy you made the center of attention in your marketing and advertising materials? Who would do this? Hint: they have had 16, that’s right 16 straight losing seasons. Kids who just...

Nate McClouth is reasonably priced until 2012.

The Pirates get room for a player I'm high on in Andrew McCutchen as well a major league ready prospect in Charlie Morton. If either Gorkys Hernandez or Jeff Locke come to being good for Pittsburgh, it's a deal that will help both sides. There's not much more to say. Glavine's story is sad, but many top athletes have long goodbyes. And Frank Wren must be plum tuckered out.

Braves Acquire McLouth

The Atlanta Braves have acquired outfielder Nate McLouth from the Pirates in exchange for pitchers Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke, and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez. This is a solid move for both clubs, but especially the Pirates. McLouth had a breakout year last season, hitting .276 with 26 home runs in 152 games. McLouth is 27, and should provide the Braves with some much needed support...

So Long, Tom Glavine

The Atlanta Braves, in an attempt to make themselves seem younger, released 305-game winner Tom Glavine this afternoon. After undergoing surgery to repair his shoulder and elbow, the aging lefty semi-triumphantly returned to the team he spent the first 16 seasons of his career with (1987-2002) before dating the Mets for five years and then deciding he missed his old flame. So, am I...
