Arizona notebook: Trap avoided -- barely
With a critical trip to Washington looming this week and impressive wins over Cal and Stanford (on the road) and Colorado (at home) in their rearview mirror, perhaps a matchup with lowly Utah was a predictable trap for the Wildcats.
That doesn't mean coach Sean Miller had to be happy watching his Arizona team fall behind by 13 points before escaping with a 70-61 home victory...

Defense at heart of Wildcats' success
TUCSON Hope is where the heart is.
And right now Arizonas hope of finishing strong and maybe, just maybe, getting a shot at the NCAA tournament will come from its defense.
It's on that end of the court where the Wildcats have consistently shown the most heart throughout an up-and-down season, and especially in last week's sweep at California and Stanford.
Were feeling...

UA notebook: 'Still in this thing'
Coach Sean Miller put it succinctly: "No one's dead. We can still breathe."
In fact, the Wildcats have never felt better this season than they did after completing a road sweep in the Bay Area with a 78-74 win at Cal last Thursday, then a 56-43 smothering of Stanford on Saturday.
Arizona returns home to face second-place Colorado on Feb. 9 tied for fourth place, just...

UA notebook: Miller stressing ball security
Arizona coach Sean Miller ranted earlier this week about his team committing too many turnovers. He's not about to let up.
The Wildcats were better in that regard at Utah on Thursday night, winning 77-51 in Salt Lake City while committing nine turnovers -- only three in the second half. They had been averaging 15.2 turnovers through five conference games.
But, frankly, Utah...

Miller, Donovan's relationship takes to court
TUCSON Lute Olson had Roy Williams. Sean Miller has Billy Donovan.
Sounds like good company for each and all. But when it came to competition and a good test of where you were at the time and where you know you needed to get Olson and Williams always called on one another. The benefits of playing a friend? You know you'll get a good test no matter what.
"I've been friends with...

Sean Miller Is Not NC State's Next Coach
This is incredibly disappointing news, as well as frustrating after watching Sean Miller's Arizona Wildcats destroy the mighty Duke Blue Devils last night. Sean would have been the perfect coach for NC State and would have won big here. Perhaps its even more upsetting that State could have hired him 5 years ago, or even 2 years ago. Ugh. On the next one.

Xavier Coach Sean Miller was a basketball phenom, ESPN, Video
Xavier Coach Sean Miller was a basketball phenom, ESPN, Video. You know Sean Miller as Xavier’s head basketball coach, but in 1980 he was just a 12 year old coaches son who rocked mad skills with the round ball. I was amazed when I watched the video. How many of these moves have you ever [...]
