Virginia quarterback Phillip Sims is no longer on the school’s football roster, according to a statement from the Cavaliers’ website today. Sims started four games last year for the Wahoos, but was rumored to have dropped down the depth chart in the offseason. It would appear that academics also played a role in his departure.

University of Virginia quarterback Phillip Sims reminded us why the University of Virginia is known more for their pleasant campus and lacrosse team than as a football powerhouse. On Saturday, Sims led a drive down to the four-yard line of North Carolina State. On their first down play, the Cavaliers’ coaches called for a beautifully drawn up misdirection trick play.
Phillip Sims ran for one touchdown and threw for another, and Virginia routed North Carolina State 33-6 on Saturday to snap a six-game losing streak.
Kevin Parks rushed for 115 yards and a late 31-yard touchdown for the Cavaliers (3-6, 1-4 Atlantic Coast Conference).
