North Carolina Central University gave Crystal Mangum, the Duke lacrosse accuser, a degree in "police psychology" this past semester. Irony aside, it kind of violates most moral codes. And university specific conduct codes.

As for me, I don't fault either university for not flexing their muscle on matters not directly related to their academic mission. I do, however, find the individuals on both sides of this case (the accuser and the accused) pretty disgusting..
The originial editorial fails to acknowledge Mike Nifong's culpability in all of this, or how Duke, itself, treated the accused players, how the accused players themselves had other disciplinary problems, or how the players settled with Duke... the two men who didn't graduate from college this year most certainly WILL graduate, and what they'll be able to do with a Duke degree will dwarf whatever Ms. Magnum will be able to accomplish (Ms. Magnum is currently working as a janitor).
I find it very hard to take Ms. Butler's editorial seriously, not only for the reasons above, but because her tone is parochial and paternalistic, and because she basically calls Ms. Magnum a slut who will accomplish nothing in life. She comes thisclose to saying Ms. Magnum is a drug whore with no chance at redemption. And she wants readers to feel empathy for her fellow Dookies...
