Amnesty International wants the Canadian government to detain former President George W. Bush on possible war crimes charges when Bush visits British Columbia on Oct. 20. The London-based human rights group has forwarded a 1,000-page memorandum asking that Bush be held, investigated and prosecuted for his alleged involvement with “enhanced interrogation techniques” and “water boarding.” “As U.S. authorities have so far failed to bring former president Bush to justice, the international community must step in,” Susan Lee of Amnesty International said in a statement. “Canada is required by its international obligations to arrest and prosecute former president Bush given his responsibility for crimes under international law including torture,” she added.
