Mubarak Wakaso grabbed brace in Ghana's 2-0 win over Cape Verde on Saturday
Cape Verde’s fairytale story was put to an end by Ghana after their substitute Mubarak Wakaso bagged a brace at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to book their spot into the semi-final with a 2-0 win.
Cape Verde’s debut experience had so far been a fairytale, seeing them table topping both Morocco and Angola to reach the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations.
However, their progression meant that they were going to be thrown into the deep end when they had to take to the field against tournament favourites and Group B’s winner Ghana.
Following cautious starts to their matches in Group A, the Cape Verde side got this game underway with some vigour, in the opening eight minutes, seeing Babanco fire his effort from distance wide.
