A marshal at the Canadian Grand Prix was killed on Sunday. The man was run over by a crane late in the Formula One race in Montreal. In a released statement the FIA noted that the man was a member of the Notre Dame Automobile Club had died but did not issue his name. “The worker was helping to recover a car which had stopped during the race,” said the statement, via AU News. “The recovery vehicle had lifted the car to return it to the pits and while doing this the worker dropped his radio and attempted to pick it up.” While helping to retrieve Esteban Gutierrez’s crashed car following the race the man tripped while trying to retrieve a dropped radio and fell under the wheels of a mobile crane. The marshal could not be seen by the driver of the crane, and was run over – suffering serious injuries. He was transferred by helicopter to a Montreal treatment center but was later pronounced dead. F1 points leader Sebastian Vettle would go on to win the race.
