The surprising Celtics pull out a 94-90 win over the Heat and lead the East Finals 3-2
The
Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 94-90 in Game 5 of the Eastern
Conference Finals Tuesday night in Miami.
So
what are supposed to make of that? Are the Heat with the home court advantage
underacheiving again and not playing focused or right. Lebron and Dwayne Wade
play well but they don’t hit the clutch shots in the end and are 0-11 in late
game situations for making winning shots in the last minutes of games since
coming together two years ago. And the third member of the Heat’s big three
Chris Bosh who has been injured with an abdominal injury the last week came
back and had 9 points but there was question whether Heat coach Erik Spoelstra
played him enough. I think you give a player who is coming back from injury
like that the chance to show you what he can do, he does what he can and if
comes out or doesn’t play as much then so be it. But it’s the playoffs so those
decisions about his minutes and productivity will be even more questioned even
despite the injury and that’s unfair.
Meanwhile
the Boston Celtics are putting it all together for another and maybe final run
for their Big Four and I’m not surprised. Led by over 30 veterans Kevin
Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo and their supporting cast, the
Celtics are showing they are the better team, they lead the series 3-2 and in
many ways could have won Game 2 which they lost in overtime and then the series
would be over now. So the series heads to Boston for Game 6 Thursday night and
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the experienced Celtics close out the
underacheiving Heat. Or the Heat could rise and win Game 6 and find their way
to win at home in Game 7.
They
have some good talent. But I also don’t think the chemistry is there and they don’t
always know how to win against or put away championship level teams. And that’s
why I don’t like the Heat. Not because of Lebron James or Dwayne Wade. They are
great basketball players, not because of the Big Three and media/fan expectations that come
with it. But I don’t really like the Heat because unlike an up and coming team
like the Oklahoma City Thunder, they don’t know or find a way to win the big
games at the big times and Lebron, Wade or one of the role players like a Mike
Miller, Mario Chalmers Udonis Haslem needs to step up and hit or make the big
shots or plays. The Thunder are doing this against the San Antonio Spurs in the
Western Conference Finals and lead 3-2 with a chance to close it out at home
tonight against the Spurs much to my regret as a Spurs fan and I’m still hoping
for the best from them. We’ll see what happens. And Thursday night the Boston
Celtics could close out the Miami Heat in 6 games. We’ll see if the cagy
veteran Cetics who play smarter and better basketball find a way to win. Or do
the Miami Heat find their game whatever that is and a way to win Game 6 in
Boston. That would get them back home in Miami for Game 7. But Boston like
Oklahoma City has two chances to win one game and both are doing it against the
team with the homecourt advantage. The Oklahoma City Thunder against the Boston
Celtics in the NBA Finals. It’s a series not many people are talking about in
the NBA Finals but its one game from happening on both sides. I think it can.
We’ll see if it happens and talk soon again. Best wishes. Bratman
