Steven Spielberg may cut ties with Beijing Olympics over Darfur

Steven Spielberg may step down as artistic advisor to the 2008 Beijing Olympics if China doesn't adopt a tougher stance towards Sudan over the genocide in Darfur. Spielberg was supposed to design much of the opening ceremonies, but after pressure from several human rights groups, may decline to offer his services for the games. The main concern of many advocates is that China holds a very close relationship with Sudan, mostly involving transactions of oil and weaponry (much of which is used by militias to slaughter thousands of civilians in Darfur). The bottom line is: China is the African nation's diplomatic patron and its biggest trading partner. So is it time for Spielberg and others to boycott the Olympics, or this an unfair and/or futile way to make a statement?
