St. Louis Cardinal's Are Taking Advantage While They Can ~

The Cardinals ~ Cubs game is on it's way this afternoon, which will conclude their three game series before the Cards host the Dodgers. Seems the Cardinals are picking up where they left off last night! Cardinals up 4-0 in the first.

Don't know if the Cardinals woke-up during the seventh last night and realized they were suppose to be playing baseball? Or....the Cubs just "fell asleep at the seventh inning wheel" by RP's Russell, Corpas and Dolis. Cubs SP Garza was relieved of duty after the third due to a cramp in his right triceps.

Since the second half of this season began last week, up until last night's game ~ the Cardinals only had a total of 15 runs. In the seventh inning last night, they threatened to equal that number, with two outs on the board, the Cardinals did their magic around the outs building a 12 run lead and final scoring exhibition. The team has not had that number of runs in an inning since 1926. They tied the major record for doubles in an inning by the Boston Bees at St. Louis in the first inning of Game 1 of a doubleheader on Aug. 25, 1936. Cardinals had St. Louis totaled 10 hits with multiple hits by three players including pinch-hitter Allen Craig, who doubled twice with an RBI. A total of 2 singles, 6 doubles and 1 triple to bring the Cubs to their knees. Cardinals Westbrook got the win and shutout, 12-0 ~ and Rosenthal the save. The Cardinals totaled nine doubles for the first time in franchise history since setting a modern major league record with 13 doubles on July 12, 1931, ~ strangely enough ~ against the Cubs.

Honorable mention goes to Matt Holliday for his 469' solo home run in the third during Friday night"s win over the Cubs, 4-1. Holliday's homer is the longest at 7-year-old Busch Stadium.

Today ~ we have Cardinals Lance Lynn looking to shutout the Cubs, also. We are in the top of the eighth, 7-0 for the Cardinals. Which includes two solo homers in the bottom of the fifth ~ Holliday, followed by Beltran. SP Travis Wood in on the mound for the Cubs.

So ~ with two more innings to play, we'll wait to see if the Cardinals add another shutout and!! sweep this series.

To all ~ enjoy your games.  Congratulations to Ernie Els in his grand "come from behind" win of the British Open.

Always ~ Elichap
