PASL Week 2: Sidekicks end Sockers 46 game unbeaten run, La Fiera on fire at Strikers expense

It was a night of emotion in San Diego on Saturday 9th November 2013, and a date that will live long in the memory of all who witnessed the tumbling of some pretty stupendous records.

Not since the Sockers rejoined the PASL in 2009 have they suffered a home defeat, looking even earlier in the franchise's history, they had failed to be beaten at home since 2004 so the victory by Dallas Sidekicks, although not completely an out of this world achievement, it was pretty spectacular.

Amidst a high fiving, back patting furore of screaming fans, San Diego handed out 4'000 championship rings to its fans and as it would happen, 5'658 people turned up - a record for the club!

Dallas stood on no ceremony though and handed the Sockers the defeat, and despite the 14th championship banner having been unfurled prior to the game, the Texans were in no mood to bow to the four times consecutive champions.

Goals from Koochoie, Shamu, Hernandex, Lovegrove and Arredondo were enough to seal the victory as a stalwart defence managed to limit the home side to just the three goals.

Sunday night for the Kicks was not to be as joyful despite scoring another five goals!

Ontario took this match by the scruff of the neck in the first couple of periods, leading 3-1 after the first and 5-2 after the second and by this time it appeared that the travel endured by the Dallas players may take its toll on them but back they bounced in the third with two goals to cut the deficit to just the one goal.

Into the fourth period and spirits were raised as Shamu grabbed the equaliser but in the remainder of play, they just couldn't find that winning goal.

Ontario however did find that winning touch, scoring just the once more to run out 6-5 winners over an unbeaten Dallas side.

Dallas take on Tulsa Revolution next weekend, with the Oklahoma side still looking for their first victory this term. The Sidekicks also return to US Open Cup action on Sunday with their tie against PASL Premier side Austin Capitals, the winner of which will take on Hidalgo La Fiera in the last 16.

Hidalgo La Fiera set the scoring charts on fire in their match up with Texas Strikers on Saturday with Robson de Souza in particularly goal scoring form as he bagged himself four of the eventual 13 goals that were rifled into the back of the Strikers goal net.

In reply, the visitors, who were playing only their first match this season, managed only the one goal in response courtesy of Hector Garcia in the third quarter.

League standings show that despite the loss to Ontario, Dallas find themselves in second spot behind Monterrey. Thanks to the thumping win over Texas, Hidalgo moved into third with a win PCT of .500. Tulsa and Texas languish at the bottom of the Central division still looking for the first victory.

The Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) is a North American indoor soccer league. The PASL is an affiliated member of the FIFRA (Federation International Futbal Rapido Association) with 20 teams from USA and Mexico currently participating in season 2013-14.
