All calls even out. Furthermore, I believe the clock was stopped on the play in question due to the officials deciding whether or not to make a measurement. Stop with the conspiracy theories.
I gotta say, as a Cowboys fan, I've seen Dallas reach the absolute pinnacle (1992, 1993, and 1995), and I've seen them at their absolute lowest point (1989). They've won some really close ones, and they've lost some heartbreakers. When they won, they deserved to win; when they lost, they deserved to lose.
I live in Boston, so I've witnessed the transformation of the Patriots fan-base with amazement. Before this most recent Patriots dynasty, Foxboro Stadium (or "Sullivan Stadium" as it was called when I was a kid, and "Schaefer Stadium" before that) was the home of the three-hour pity party. The stadium didn't sell out unless one of the big boys (49ers, Bears, Raiders, Cowboys) came to town. The since the merger, the Pats had two good years (1976, 1985) and a whole lot of terrible seasons before Robert Kraft bought the team. Fans were ALWAYS down on the Patriots. They were miserable.
Not to mention the fact that the Patriots shared the town with Bobby Orr's Big Bad Bruins in the 1970s, and Larry Birds Celtics dynasty in the 1980s. Furthermore, Boston is, and always has been, a baseball town. The Red Sox are kings now, but Fenway Park is a happening place regardless of how the Sox are doing. The Patriots, prior to the Kraft ownership, were just hoping to fit in.
Another thing about the fans here. When Bill Parcells was the head coach in New England, the local sports media and fans kissed his fat ass. They NEVER called him out on anything, and saw him as the savior. When he left the team after the 1996 season (and only AFTER he was gone), that's when all the Parcells bashers came out of the woodwork, telling whomever will listen how over-rated Parcells is as a coach.
Mark my words: Bill Belichick will suffer the same fate. The Boston media likes to say "In Bill We Trust" regarding Belichick's decisions. Furthermore, for whatever reason, they are so intimidated by Belichick that the local media will NOT call him out on anything either. Spygate, the hand-shake snub, 4th and 13, etc. None of it was addressed by the Boston lemmings. Any queries into these things are done at the national level.
If and when Belichick decides he's had enough, and ONLY then, the Boston media will do the exact same thing. His "genius" crown will be unceremoniously stripped from his head. He will be called "over-rated," and ridiculous statements like "Geez, I could have coached a team with Tom Brady as my quarterback and done just as well!" will be spewed by every Monday morning QB from Fall River to Lowell. Now, I'm not ripping Bill Belichick; I still believe he's a great NFL coach. But the rump-swab worship he gets here in Beantown is nauseating sometimes.
Now, the Pats have a great team, and they will be one of the favorites again next season. Tom Brady is still a great quarterback, Bill Belichick is still a great head coach, and the last 1:40 of one game doesn't change any of that. But, please, stop with all the bullsh*t excuses. Real mean don't make excuses. The Giants beat the Patriots. The Giants beat the Cowboys. The Giants are Super Bowl champions.
It is what it is. Where have I heard that before?
