Eagle's Trade Possibility: Tony Gonzalez

You rarely see in-season trades in the National Football League. One of the main reasons is that the league imposes such an early deadline in comparison to the other major sports. This year, the deadline is October 14th. Despite that, this trend may be about to change as after just 5 weeks of this year's season it has become fairly clear who the have and have nots may be. The most likely situation for a trade is probably in Detroit, where Matt Millen has already been fired and replaced with Tom Lewand. Lewand would be wise to make some changes that could be viewed as having a positive effect on the franchise if he hopes to retain the job beyond the 2008 season. WR, Roy Williams, who is already rumored to be on the market, is the most likely trade chip for the Lions. Another team that is clearly in rebuilding mode is the Kansas City Chiefs, who at 1-4 have absolutely no shot of competing for anything but the #1 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. They were blown out 34-0 this weekend in Carolina and have been lifeless in all but 1 game, a week four 33-19 home victory over the Denver Broncos. Many are speculating that it may be time to trade RB Larry Johnson, but it is TE Tony Gonzalez that I see as being

ocho, roy williams or boldin if that dont happen were missing the playoffs and then in that case i hope mcnabb goes to a better team so he can get that ring.

ocho or boldin would be awesome. i believe both guys are still under contract and i'm pretty certain that arizona won't give him up and the same for cincinati.

With Curtis returning and Desean breaking out, I can't see the Eagles going after a receiver. Tight End is the biggest need, along with Andrews getting healthy.

Thats true but McNabb cant get them the ball, i think that chest is still bothering him. It would be nice to have a Chad Johnson our Roy Williams but that would just make it 3 good WR's that McNabb cant get the ball to.

I'm with you. He hasn't looked the same since that injury.

I feel you gunna, i dont want no Ocho Stinko not even for free, but Mcnabb doesnt have anything broken or torn, and we have a bye coming up for him to rest. Were not getting another QB, but Mcnabb can heal and honestly the only shot the Eagles have would be to acquire another playmaker, not Ocho, not T Gonzo (way past his prime) but more in the likes of a Larry Jonhson (would be a perfect fit) or Roy Williams. I would be surprised if the Eagles make a move by friday, but with all this pressure, and if they dont want the fans to explode which they are on the verge of, I wouldnt be completely shocked if they acquire somehow LJ or Roy Will with all our playmakers injured and Mcnabb getting back to health hopefully, and with the lots of trading ammo and TON of cap room we have to spend which I think angers the fans more than anything. Especially with the losing record we have. Andy seemed to be able to call plays fine when he had a big reliable receiving threat in TO, and wont even take a shot downfield right now whether it be lack of playmakers or lack of playcalling. Imagine how nasty that lineup becomes with LJ, or Roy Will on the otherside of D Jax, and the fans would be happy again and take some of the heat off Andys monstrous ass. It would be a VERY wise move by Andy, and a very smart investment on the Eagles part. I just doubt it will happen to to the one thing Andy has been MORE than consistent with since he's been here, and thats stubborness. But now his job may be on the line.

Tony would be a good blocker and a big target. LJ IS WAY OVER-RATED.

Having Gonzalez would be a definate upgrade. L.J is an over priced cheerleader!

would be an upgrade but theres no way there paying 2 tightends big bucks, when one doesnt deserve a penny and the other is on the downside of his great career. Again I doubt anything will happen, but with Curtis still out, West injured for who knows how long, Andy seeming to be on the hotseat, all that cap space, the Eagles lack of playmakers, and our toughest part of the schedule ahead, I think theres a slim chance they spend the money on someone younger as in Larry Johnson or Roy Williams if anyone at all. The investment would more than payoff for Lurie with the excitement it would create, and merch and ticket sales so there is a tinnny tinnny chance. But dont even get your hopes up a little, besides that 03 offseason, the Eagles have a history of disappointing. So if anything, count on absolutely nothing at all, and if something were to miraculously happen, than be ecstatic!! *fingers crossed* and probably for no reason at all. I just cant yet lose the faith. I BLEED green.

Since LJ's a free agent after the season you wouldn't really be paying two high priced tight ends. Tony G's cap number for the Eagles would be prorated over 11 games for the remainder of this season and any remaining signing bonus is absorbed by the trading team (in this case, the Cheifs).
  • That would be wassup to get Tony Gonzalez and Roy Williams and to make a great push to a super bowl but you guys have to remember that you have a gm oh wait he is the coach too who is content with premium talent such as reggie brown lmao and lorenzo booker who is is known in most circles as "baby westbrook " (I find that funny myself) but until that guy relieves those duty you must be happy with contending!

find me ONE circle where Lorenzo "a strong gust of wind will take me out" Booker is considered in "the same circle" as Brian Westbrook...and I'll give you my full commission on my ENTIRE subdivision being settled next Friday. Not Dave Spadaro, or a yardbarker claiming he could have that type of potential months ago before the dude ever put pads on, but ONE person let alone "most circles"....thats officially the craziest thing Ive ever heard, on YARDBARKER> I mean we were all drinking the kool aid (spadaro flavored) before he put on pads, but theres not a single person alive with a functioning brain that would suggest Booker could literally hold Westbrooks jock.

Um your comment wasnt very hard to understand....here Ill repost it for you since your the one who seems to be confused about what you yourself said ....."and lorenzo booker who is is known in most circles as "baby westbrook " end quote.....its your words not mine. You said that he is known as "baby westbrook" in "MOST circles"...its not nostradamus Im trying to decode here. Its a simple comment and hes not know by anybody to be "baby westbrook"...and thats what I was saying....and I read your one sentence comment fully and repeated what you said so Im not sure what your issue is, unless its with what you yourself wrote

Apparently TJ Houshmanzadeh is believed by many to be on the block now as well. He's in a contract year, so it would make sense for the Bengals.

Donavan is no choker he is the best QB alive today. He can do it all.He awesome.Super 5 can Scrammble, extend plays, peform in the clutch,Throw peferct passes, read defenses schemes while on the field, got a canon arm,be exclusive, precison passer and he awesome at all of it.See he can do it all at legendary status, while having no help what so ever. Now can Peyton or Brady do that NO.Only one person right now come close and that's Drew Brees cause he nice and has no weapons. So watch my birds make a big splash before the season starts we gonna get Boldin or Ocho Cinco. But it's clear we will get Tony Gonzalez and we will have another star wideout that comes down 2 Holt or harrisson.See it the best Quarterback alive haters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
