  Greedy Owners????/ I don't see how this is greedy on the owners parts...isn't it the players that are demanding such high contracts??? isn't it the agents of rookies that are demanding that unproven players that have yet to step foot on a professional football field get paid top dollar? things need to change..the NFL is the greatest sports association there is and I have no doubts that there will be a new agreement. There will not be a lockout. There are things that need to be changed. Jake Long being gauranteed 30 million dollars in a rookie contract is absurd! he hasn't played yet but he is being paid more than proven vets. There has got to be fixed salaries and contracts for rookies, similar to that of the NBA. The players and agents are the greedy ones...not the owners. Not to mention, that all of the problem players in this league (pacman, chris henry, tank johnson...etc) are all young players who are given way too much money than they know what to do with hence they get in trouble. There needs to be a better system for rookies coming into the league. The image of the NFL is starting to become out of control and the contracts are becoming ridiculous. something has got to change.

    The bottom line is there's a lot of money to go around. Some players make more than others, but highlighting a Jake Long or Reggie Bush shows a small fraction of the league. And despite the Jake Longs, the owners are making bank. When it comes to young players making too much money, it's the owners who have paid them more. There are many teams out there who wouldn't pay those contracts and are very competative (look at New England). No one forced them into it. Also, I don't buy the fact that Pacman Jones or Tank Johnson got into trouble becuase they got paid a lot of money. There are bad seeds everywhere and many NFL players have gotten into trouble before they've joined the league or recieved large contracts.
    
    When it comes to playing, the shelf life of most players is 2-3 years. This is a sport that sees career ending injuries every Sunday and former players living with chronic pain. The players are the ones who should get as much money as they can and I doubt the'll be giving too many concessions. If the owners and players can't come to an agreement and we see a labor stopage it will irreperably damage the league and the owners will wish this never happened.

  On defense of the players if you hire me to work for you and i give you my best ,iwant to get paid accordingly,i want to get paid for being exploited for your financial gains,no i cant make this $$ doing a regular job but luckily with the god given talents that they posses you can either take or leave it,your not getting pounded on a daily basis you can retire healthy....Man you guys make me sick

    There aren't many professions that only give you about 10 years to make a living...if you're one of the best.

  this is pretty scary to me. NFL network said we shouldnt worrie, but how can we not be scared when these may be the last three years of NFL football for a while.

    Totally agree. Even though it's 3 years away I'm afraid no one will make concessions and we will end up holding our breath as midnight all night negotiations go on to save the season.

  The owners opted out because their costs are going up, especially teams building new stadiums. they say the players are getting about 64% in reality. think about all of the other people that an nfl team employs. groundskeepers, securtiy guards, ushers, box office employees, administrators, marketing people, coaching staffs that number up to 20 some people who all get paid well. Thats just the start of it There are thousands of employees making these organizations run yet they only get 36% of the income to pay theses people not to mention all of the other expenses such as maintenance, electric, taxes, etc.. And with the economy turned to shit, even rich people need to tighten the belt a little. A couple percentage points goes a long way. I don't even see it being a big problem because gene upshaw said that the players union got more than they even asked for in the last agreement.

    So that means even for the rich people..they might have to play less golf or sell one of their homes. Gasp*
