  You know, it isn't that I think they are bad, but I am surprised that everyone of these I have seen (3) has San Diego above the Cowboys. I just don't buy them as legit. Their offensive line was exposed last season, and for the last couple of years that big defensive front has been injury riddled. I would put them below the Steelers, Colts, and Pats in the AFC and Cowboys to my mind are the clear third team here and the top in the NFC.

    I don't know. San Diego did make it to the AFC Championship game last year and didn't do that bad of a job against the Pats. Who knows if it would have been any closer had Tomlinson played the whole game. I guess until our Cowboys get over than hump and start producing at the end of the season, then they are going to remain a mystery. Granted, the Chargers had injuries, but if they can get through a season without them, I would put them where they are on here only because they did make it deep into the playoffs last season.

    They consistently make it deep into the playoffs in the superior of the 2 leagues so I'd agree with their rank. The Steelers on the otherhand should be a little lower, they played poorly last season overall and were horrible down the stretch. They'll be lucky to get a wildcard berth this season with their schedule.

      Yeah, they do have a tough schedule. Steelers have some of their tougher games at home though against S.D., Indy, and the Cowboys. Will be interesting to see how that AFC North turns out.

        After a short week for the Eagles, that game could be rather intersting. Should be a good one.

    Before I say this, know that I do like the Cowboys more than the Chargers.
    
    San Diego won two playoff games last year, including one on the road. Dallas won zero. Also, AFC Still > NFC. For these rankings the Bolts should be ahead of the Boys.

      I would agree with you at this point. One game away from the Super Bowl with a gimpy running back and QB should get S.D. a few more points.

      AFC>NFC... SIKE, it comes down to the superbowl and we won dat last year. as well as the probowl.
      Plus the AFC only has like 5 teams that stand a chance against any nfc team.

    They probably would be if they were guaranteed to have their best WR for the entire season.

  Packers should be higher. seriously how much of a drop off is Brett from last year to Aaron if he doesn't get injured? Plus the saints and Giants are to high. The jaguars should be moved up as well.

    Aaron rodgers did a decent job replacing Farve in that Cowboys game. People let that game slip their minds when judging his capabilities...

      Yes, but can he do it over a whole season? Favre threw way too many INT's , but he had the savvy to make up for most of them.

  I dunno why I respect San Diego, but I really think as a franchise they have made massive improvements since the Chargers of old. They are definitely a talented group, and the truly are getting better with age.

    They are better on both sides of the ball now. This year will be a good test to see if they can take it one step further. I still have to go with N.E. as the favorite for now, but that could change if S.D. goes into the playoffs without injuries.

  You should put the pats fourth, Indy second, the jags thrid and the steelers first. Then NY should be fifth because lets face it Manning is young, and they have a receiver named Plaxico.

      The Steelers aren't even first in their division...let alone their conference and CERTAINLY let alone the league

      Why not? They are in contention just like everyone else. I don't know. I like Big Ben. they probably will have a good run game, and I like Mike Tomlin as well. I think it would be pretty dumb to say they are not a contender. So what if they were not first last year? A new year means you start from zero come september. Plus I odn't like the Pats being first. It just doesn't look right.

        I hear ya, but I guess you can call everyone a contender at this point. I guess you could put the S.B. champs up there at the top. Or, how about Miami? The Pats are still the odds-on favorite to win it all next year. Steelers lost one of their best offensive linemen and still have a few questions on defense. I'm not a big Pats fan either, but I can't overlook the talent they have coming back.

        I agree, the Steelers are always among the TOP of their division, and their division looks really rocky. Although I am biased and dislike Ben Roethelisberger; (Due to his less is more approach to throwing.) His play is smart where he knows how to protect the ball better then previous years. He has a strong arm and also uses his teams strengths to gain wins. Davenport and Parker are both great runningbacks, and Tomlin had an impressive first season. But I once again have problems believing that the SuperBowl Champions of the upcoming year will come from a plagued AFC North. As most teams in that division are battling hardships.
        
        Minus the for mentioned Browns. Whose difficulty is choosing in between two qualified quarterbacks for the starting job.
        
        All of this while Baltimore has QB controversy and a new Offensive Coordinator and the Bengals lost Chris Henry;
        
        Not to mention T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson are both unsatisfied with the franchise.
        
        No powerhouse teams seem to be standing out in their division at this point. EXCEPT the Patriots, however with their losses, and the rebuilding of The Jets, Dolphins, and Bills, comes a path that seems far more difficult than last years.
        
        Patriots winning it doesn't look right because the talent has been upped, and they didn't take the Superbowl when it was virtually given to them. And yes the Steelers are definitely in contention, but SuperBowl?

    I think it is BOLD of you to say the Pats are not first...
    I do however agree;
    
    But Pittsburgh is not ready to take the torch. A new coach, new approach to offense using the west coast, Roethelisberger making clls from the huddle. No Cedric Wilson, Parker off of an injury. There are a lot of question marks, Including Cleveland creeping in on that division as one of the better teams.
    
    I respect the Giants offense, more because of a young Brandon Jacobs. But they also have their issues, can Jeremy Shockey be replaced by Kevin Boss? And that defense; particularly Strahan and the secondary are aging. Osi Umenyiora is a beast, but the defense as a unit wins championships
    
    Some of last year seemed to be very coincidental and not so much consistent. And the Patriots were the best squad, but I feel like they partially defeated themselves, with all do respect to NE, they were very arrogant about the season, and they thought they won every game before they played it. The same with the SuperBowl. Rather then studying the opponent, Brady was in tabloids in an ankle cast. That is NOT the way you prepare, Supermodels wait until AFTER the Superbowl...

      Well the steelers play them in like the second or 3rd week so we will see if the browns will be good. The pats used to be as bad as the browns were just 2 years ago...maybe worse.

  Steelers first? WTF?!? They didn't win a playoff game, and they lost Alan Faneca, that will be huge. I know they are good but better than NE, IND, JAX, not a chance.

    I think the Chargers and the Jaguars are the two most underestimated squads right now as far as offensive and defensive weaponry are concerned.

      Jags are going to make some noise. They have a young, though defense and a decent offense. San Diego could have pulled off a good win last year if they wouldn't have been banged up going into the N.E. game.

        The Jags are going to the superbowl next year. The chargers are good, but i think Tomlinson is overrated. He gets all his yards agianst certain games. He is still the top back this year until proven otherwise, but i don't think he would have made a difference

        SD just seems incapable of going to the SB...and Rivers, healthy or not, won't change that....LT might. I definitely concur with the Jags statement...they have a nasty D, though their line is a bit unproven, and they have enough O to get it done.
        
        LT is NOT overrated though...thats just absurd man

        Tomlinson not overrated. He's got a good shot at ending up one of the all-time rushers if he stays healthy.

        okay, went to far to say "overrated". i just don't think he would have made a difference in the game against the patriots in the playoffs.
