Source: Asante Samuel is an Eagle
"Source: Asante Is An Eagle Written by Micah Warren Friday, 29 February 2008 I spoke to a source close to the situation who told me that Asante Samuel is in. It's done. Per the source, the cornerback and the Eagles have worked out a deal. Samuel is definitely one of the big-time names in free agency this year, and the Eagles were obviously intent on signing him even though this constitutes tampering. That said, everyone in the NFL tampers. It's a fact. You see free agency start at 12:01 a.m. one day, and they have major deals done by 12:05 a.m. These things just don't happen that quickly. If the Eagles do indeed land Samuel, you can start the clock ticking on Lito Sheppard's tenure as a Philadelphia Eagle. It's been reported that he isn't happy with his contract, and if he thinks he hates it now, wait until he sees what Mr. Samuel will make "

does that mean that it will be done right away because they have been working on it for weeks or does that mean that it wont happen that quickly?

ST. Petersburg Times is reporting it also.
for those of you still wondering about Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, I have it on good authority that he is bound for Philadelphia. Anything can happen because nothing's official yet, but that's the version that has been making the rounds among insiders since Wednesday evening.

I don't see the eagles keeping sheppard if he asking for a raise, The draft is deep at CB, so you probably could land some nickle CB. I don't mind having a guy like (justin king , probably will be available in the second rd due to tough jr season) shut down corner as my third or fourth corner. He had a bad year because penn st. pass rush wasn't good this year. The kid got the tool to be a shut down CB. The eagles make this signing to give them chip(lito) to trading up in the draft for one those TOP DE or Trading for The BIG time WR.

After looking at though .... I can see the confusion myself.
This was from last night, after the Samuel report .... there was discussion on what happens to Lito.
610 WIP was talking about moving up into the draft ... and said since there was pre-mature rumor of the Pats liking Lito to fill thrie needs .... that maybe there was discussion between the Eagles and Pats on a possible trade.

EAGLES CONFIRM SAMUEL VISIT
The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that cornerback Asante Samuel will visit the team on Friday. He will be made available to the media at 4:30 p.m. EST.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that Samuel's deal is done, and that he'll sign it after he passes a physical.
Stay tuned. Until the contract is signed, someone else can step to the plate with more money, and Samuel can choose to take it.

Eagles Hope to Finish Deal With Samuel:
The players on this team and the fans asked for playmakers. Here he is.
Pretty much everyone said this defense needs to create more turnovers.
Here they are.
This is a defense who ranked dead last in the NFL in picks, and they're on the brink of adding a guy that's had 16 in the past two years. For anyone counting, that's more picks than both of the Eagles starters combined over the last two years.

1. Where there is Smoke-There is Fire ....the Lito trade-RUMOR, started last week, with the Eagles denying it came from them ... It had to of started somewhere ???
( Lito Sheppard-DB- Eagles Feb. 25 - 9:00 am et
One of the rumors "making the rounds" at the Combine is that the Patriots are interested in Lito Sheppard, according to Profootballtalk.com.
The Eagles have vehemently denied reports Sheppard is on the block, but might trade him for the right price. There is speculation that Sheppard is unhappy with his contract, while the Birds are eyeing Asante Samuel.

2.Eagles agreed to terms on a one-year contract for S/KR J.R. Reed and tendered a one-year deal to restricted free agent CB Joselio Hanson.
Hanson was tendered at the second-round level, which will ensure he stays on, likely as the Birds' No. 3 corner. Reed will battle to be the Eagles' kick returner. He showed late in '07 that he can also play safety in a pinch.
3.Larry Fitzgerald .... this RUMOR started with an interview with Howard Eskin,
(Fitzgerald told a Philadelphia radio station during the Super Bowl that the Eagles would be on his short list of teams he'd like to play for if dealt. "I want it to work out in Arizona," Fitzgerald said at the all-star event. "I want to finish business there, hopefully we can get a contract done.) probably to use as a bargining-chip to stay-put,but as of today according to the "Arizona Republic",The Cardinals are not expected to agree on a restructured contract with Larry Fitzgerald before the free agency period at midnight ET.
The team will be seriously handicapped and out of the mix for any big free agent names (i.e. Alan Faneca, Calvin Pace) with no restructuring in place.
But Once again Card's GM Rod Graves says Fitz is STAYING .... and probably is the case.
but IF he has to be traded, the Cards will want talent in return,So that is pobably the REASON Lito's name comes-up in these Rumors.
but DON'T really expect the Eagles to keep Lito .... there is SOMETHING to that RUMOR , last week.

SAMUEL SET TO JOIN THE FLOCK
Various media reports, collected and referenced by our good friends at SportingNews.com, indicate that cornerback Asante Samuel will indeed sign a contract with the Eagles on Friday.
It's reportedly a five-year, $47.2 million deal. To the casual fan, that's short of the $10 million per year average from the eight-year, $80 million deal signed last year by Nate Clements of the 49ers. As everyone in PFT Planet knows, the Clements deal is actually seven years and $64 million, making it worth a hair over $9 million per year.
Samuel's deal carries an average of nearly $9.5 million. They could have added a phony final year that would have pushed the average to $10 million per year or more, and we respect both sides for doing what looks to be a "real" deal.
Also, there's a certain irony regarding the five-year duration of the contract. Typically, the Eagles like to lock players up for looooong periods of time. As it now stands, Samuel's deal will expire before the contracts signed by some of the young players who cashed in early.
