Thoughts & Prayers for Bills' Kevin Everett

The Buffalo Bills backup tight end and special teamer Kevin Everett was critically injured during a kick return in Sunday's Broncos/Bills game when he collided helmet-to-helmet while tackling Denver's Domenik Hixon. Everett immediately fell to the ground unconscious. He was carefully loaded on a backboard and taken directly to the hospital via ambulance from the Broncos' 30 yard line. Everett suffered a severe spinal injury and underwent surgery Sunday night at a Buffalo hospital. It's too early to know Everett's exact condition or the extent of long term effects. According to Everett's agent, there has only been "sparse" movement from Everett and it is unknown if he will even be able to walk again. Everett was drafted by the Bills in the 3rd round of the 2005 draft out of Miami (FL). He is 25 years old. I will be updating this story as more information becomes available. As fans of the sport, please take a moment to include Kevin Everett and his family in your thoughts & prayers.

  • Honestly, I'm a baseball fan first, football second. In the last 10 days I've been waiting for news about Juan Encarnacion who is dealing with an eye injury which can render blindness, not thinking about career-ending. Upon hearing about Everett's injury today I' m quick (again) to remember the risk these players take in their day-to-day lives. I'm praying (yes, for both players) that they are able to regain day-to-day function. If they are able to return to their respective sports, that's gravy. For now I hope that one player can see with both eyes and another player can walk, anything else is a blessing. I hope someone is watching over tonight.

This brings a sport like the NFL and its players to its knees. What a true tragedy for Kevin and his family. I hope he is able to regain the ability to walk again.

  • It was very scary to be there. I knew instantly somthing was very very wrong. He wasn't moving at all. Then when you see 3 or 4 player on their knees you know somthing isn't right. But then for both teams to pray. It was scary. I hope he'll be okay, even if he's not to return to football. He's much too young to lose the use of his body.

  • God is able to restore Kevin even now. I pray now Lord for healing power to surge through Kevin's body from the crown of his head to the sole of his feet. I call him HEALED and WHOLE. Nothing broken and nothing missing.
God healed the lame man at the gate beautiful in Jerusalem who had never walked. And I know he is a GOD of RESTORATION.

    • Yes. Only God can help Kevin now. The intercession of saints, angels, family and good people will hopefully affect God's merciful decision. Football fans, I believe, are a kindly bunch of rowdy , aggressive yet fun group.

Being a Bills fan, it makes the feeling of losing by 1 point paltry in comparison to the sadness accompanied by this hit. Good Luck Kevin.

  • How does one decribe Kevin? A generous and kind soul. A solid presence to his family. A devoted big broher to his younger 3 sisters. I have had the previlege of knowing Kevin as a neighbor in Houston and amazed how the NFL has not changed a dedicated person to his family and always putting others first. I wish my 2 teenage sons grow to be the example he has strived to meet and accomplish in his life.

  • Salutations to all sports and football fans alike. We are all human and share the same emotions and sensations and thoughts, in various ways. Tap into your own unique way of helping Kevin right now. You can give up something of great value for a week. You can fast. You can eliminate a personal demon or vice that you know is not good for you.. something of strong consequence. This is what a healing request thru prayer is all about. Don't just say a couple prayers and then sleep. Give up something, in your life! Verily, God will respect those who Sacrifice when praying, and he will - answer them. However, it is God's wisdom to choose what he pleases. But remember, his mercy always exceeds his justice.
"Don't quit.. don't give up.. keep going Kevin, keep breathing. keep fighting. you will become healed." I ask that we all pray these words to infiltrate Kevin's mind, and surge his spirit with Goodness and fire!

  • I'm a HUGE fan of both the NFL and college football. As a woman, I've often thought that part of its appeal was in watching 'gladiators' on the field, men blessed with tremendous physical prowess. After watching the Bills' game, I must say that I'm ashamed of that mentality. Nothing brings the danger of the sport into true perspective until you see what happened to Kevin Everett. My thoughts and prayers are sincerely with this young man and his family. We lived in Buffalo for several years, and I know that the fans are praying for his recovery as well. Buffalo people love their Bills' players.

  • Hi Kevin,
I started praying for you the minute I heard of your injury. In 1996, I fractured my neck in a car wreck. Everyone was amazed I was not paralyzed. People started praying for me, and God answered their prayers. I had a fusion surgery of three cervical vertabrae and six monthes later was able to do almost everything I did before.
MANY people are praying for you. I pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will bless you and your family and make Himself real to you.
    Love,
    A football fan

I am truly overjoyed at the fact the Mr Everett is making great progess by the movement in his limbs at this time. From the momemt that my son told me of the injury on the field I began to pray very hard for Mr.Everett and his family and teammates.
