Trade offer to Detroit Lions for Roy Willaims from Eagles

The Truth Team is the first to report that there is an offer being put together to offer Reggie Brown and perhaps a 4th round pick to the Detroit Lions for Wide Reciever Roy Williams. Actually not too bad of an offer for both teams.

Reggie Brown and a draft pick that won't play in the next 2 years or at all for Roy Williams? Yeah, I do it.

  • I think it would be great. Roy Williams is alot better than Reggie Brown. Brown is too inconsistent. I can't believe the Lions would be dumb enough to do it!!!

  • I agree about Brown being inconsistent but is Williams the number oneWR we're looking for? I really don't know to much about him, or are you guys suggesting getting him and still going after one of the big name WRs?

    • I know he's good just by watching highlights the last 3 or 4 years. Last year he made the pro bowl. He's been very productive since he's been in the league since 2004. I remember when the Eagles played the Lions this year, our defensive players mentioned his name and how important he is to the Lions offense. One thing for sure... he is better than anything we have now. Which means him and Curtis would give us better competition at wide receiver, especially in the division. We still need TE help, a solid DE to help Cole and help in the secondary. But Roy W. would be a nice piece to the puzzle!!!
  • Thanks for the info Geeterdone that sounds pretty good! Maybe picking up Algee Crumpler for a TE he is a monster in the red zone! I think Jared Allen will be franchised so I don't see him coming to philly and what about ken hamlin for help in the secondary?

If it is true the eagles should do it i mean curtis played well with Reggie imagine what him and roy could do together. Roy isnt as good as chad or fitz i agree but he does have good size and speed the eagles need a big reciever to throw to when mcnabb is scrambling or in trouble. Chad would be ideal but i think the eagles would have to give up a first rounder n more to get him and fitz likes it in arizona

  • However, Williams and the management aren't exactly getting along, and there has been a lot of speculation about his future with Detriot, especially after Calvin Johnson was brought in. It is possible, but not probable.

  • Reggie just never developed into the receiver we thought he'd be. Maybe a change in scenery will serve him well. Maybe this is a move for salary reasons. I DO KNOW that we over-paid Reggie Brown. The money we paid him should have went to TO. But thats another can of worms!!! Maybe the Lions want to move RW's salary? Maybe RW is due for a raise sooner or later. Salaries could be the motive behind this - in one way or another.

dude your an idiot, Roy is one of the top 10 in the league and he's young and has a lot to offer us. i like reggie brown but he's not great. chad j is the best but he'll never play here with his crap attitude. Fitz is great but comes with a huge pricetag. Roy is the best choice 4 us....I;m very excited about this

Hmmm. So I'd be trading a top 10 WR for a guy who is not in the top 50 and a meaningless 4th round pick? Even I'm not stupid enough to do that. Or am I?

  • ill believe this when i see it. i cannot imagine the eagles parting ways from their first round pick this early, hell i could be wrong. i do believe however that larry fitz is way out of the question due to the fact of how much money it will take. i have a feeling though that something big is going to happen this off season, more so than previous years.

    http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2008/01/marinelli_lions_wont_waive_rog.html

Marinelli was contacted by the Eagles after it was told to some of the Eagles players they are shopping for a decent offer during the Superbowl. He's already told the media about trade options so it's common knowledge and that's what the Eagles are putting on the table.
Randy Moss is THE prototype #1 reciever and he was traded for ONLY a 4th round pick.
    Seems solid for both team

yeah it may be common knowledge but how do you know were offering Reggie Brown & a 4th??? You have proof?? How do you know????
    • Harvey_Bars
Moss wasn't viewed as a prototypical WR when he was traded for a 4th round pick. T.O. was traded a few years back for a second rounder as was Justin McCareins.
    • Eagles2007
      UnTruth4sho,

This is something you made up. You're lying. You may want this to happen. However, it's pathetic to post such a ridulous article. Thanks for wasting everyone's time.

At least we now know that all of you future posts will be false as well. Come back to reality, UnTruth4sho!!!
  • ShakespeareD
Yeah, but Randy Moss didn't try for 3 years and ran over a cop with his car. I know it's fun to make up trades that greatly benefit your team without haivng to give up any talent, but that not how it works in the real world. It does work like that in the MLB though, welcome aboard Johan.

and in the nba (aka pau gasol to the lakers for nothing)
    • He never ran over a cop thats a lie, it was in traffic and the officer was signaling for Moss to stop, he faked a move forward never making contact. He ended up getting some charge but to say he ran over a cop is misguided and non-factual.
  • I'm A lions fan, and I'm trying to figure out why the lions would do this. Roy is the closest we have to veteran leadership after Kitna, theres no way we would do this. 4th round? No way. I know it seems we have drafted 15 WR's in the last 4 years but we would not trade our best pick in the last 8 years , I don't care what the rumors say. Williams is going no where, and if he does? Its for solid defensive help, not another WR with less talent and a 4th round pick we will just cut anyway, quick, name the last successful 4th round pick the Lions have had? Ok.

I can't find anything about this report anywhere else. i'd love to see it but i'm not holdin my breath.hopefully the Eagles r smart enuff to grab a WR, i think LJ is our guy at TE tho, he had one bad season but McNabb trusts him and wants him there... thats enuff for me to stick with him.

the real offseason moves are made during the draft which is in april. we still have a while.
  • llhhaammii
i'm sorry, but i doubt the validity of this rumor. the offseason has just began, teams are gearing up for the franchising period, then the draft, then free agency...when the eagles get ready to make a move, it may be at least a month before its announced.

Wasn't Roy Williams a #1 pick? Reggie is a solid 2nd WR, but even with a pick it is just too lopsided a deal to hold any merit.
Sad thing is, there isn't really anyone I could see fitting in in Philly in terms of a stud WR like we need. Walker, Moss, Roy, Chad ...they all have too much baggage to succeed in Philly. Fact is, Donovan & Westbrook may never find their 3rd horseman and Philly fans may never see the parade of all parades.

a lot of comments bout roy dropping passes and only having 800 yard and 5 td's...uhhh can anyone make out the emblem on his helmet?? ya its a lion so yes jon kitna throwing the ball behind a very weak offensive line and uh i think they won a decade high of 6 games this year... good deal for the lions and our eagles... the lions get more draft power to throw away to help build the franchise and since they have a guy named calvin johnson who they are paying an incredible amount of money for would free up money for them to go get other skill players by letting roy go. no roy is not as good as chad but chad is getting old and has a showboating problem... larry is great but just from watching both thier styles of play i think roy brings more to eagles play style... yes reggie has been very inconsistant wr but our offense has been inconsistant with mcnabb being injured so i can understand a guy struggling when have to learn 2 different play and pass styles from 2 different qb's. this would be a very a good deal for both teams as roy is a much better wr and will be a monster with a good qb and a good team around him it could make our offense very potent.

  • Nobody has replied to the fact that we get all 3 WRs. Or at least 2 of them. Chad Johnson is mandatroy, he is someone we have got to get. We can afford him. Larry Fitz we can also get, and Roy Williams well he would be a crazy no #3 WR or #4. iono i still like Reggie. I say if we get Roy, then we give up a round 11 or 12. Jason Avant is growing, and learning from the best receiving core (CJ,Fitz, Williams or Curtis) he could become a pro bowler. He has talent, so i believe he can produce monster numbers. HERES A THEORY: LETS GIVE UP GREG LEWIS AND HANK BASKETT FOR ROY. IT SOUNDS DUMB, BUT REGGIE HAS SHOWN UP. WE DON't NEED TO GIVE UP DRAFTS, and WED STILL BE OK. How do you think about that. Johnson, Fitz, Williams Brown Avant, we can kill the cowgirls next year in the reg season, and we could invade Perfectville. Also, i heard Ward, or Michael Turner was unrestricted, we could use them for short yards, or to bring in variation. We need to utilize our fullback more, he is pro bowl material. But we could switch runningbacks in to keep B-West injury free. NVM. Correll seems to be doing great, hes scoring as much as starters. LEts just keep our RB/FB positions the way they are. O AND WHERE IS OUR O-LINE HUH? Coach Reid, heres your agenda, sacrifice your life (just kidding) for CJ, Fitz, Williams, Brown or Curtis, Avant, Domique Cromartie as Nickel/CB (Sheldon can move up to safety), DeSean Jackson as KR, and See if we can get Jared.

P.S. Is Steve Smith on panthers available, why wouldn't he want to leave, and no matter what happens don't take Randy Moss, he is selfish. But anyways, coach there is your agenda.

all three WR? you must be kidding, that's not realistic, no team has that much money! that's over $25 mil in salary for those wideouts. that wouldn't bring home a championship, that will cripple the franchise for years once you add in the money, the salaries and the draft picks that would be involved!

plus, th eagles do not run a spread offense, there is no way they can accommodate all of those players. you're looking at paying 8mil a year for a #3 WR....no way!
    • willardj
      you my friend are challenged
    • Tradeing Reggie makes alot of sensebecause of the money he makes we can spend else where.Tradeing Lewis and Baskett wouldn't much sense because they aren't makeing much money and are still productive players.
  • Sounds like a great idea!!! Then during the free agency period we could sign JESUS as our other defensive end opposite Cole and bring in PETER his disciple as our 3rd corner and MARK as our new TE. Common man, be realistic.

the eagles would be fine with stallworth and wouldn't have to break the bank neither.
      • eagles4sho
Stallworth gives us what we already have, we need SIZE at the position.
      • i'm not a big fan of stallworth, HE DIDN'T DO THAT MUCH WHEN HE WAS HERE.........
  • The only way I see any truth to this is if they got the wrong Brown. Detroit doesn't need another WR. They need help on defense and maybe the real story was supposed to be Sheldon Brown and a 4th round pick. The trade would make a little more sense that way. It would be less lop-sided.
That being said, this can't be true. Truth4sho doesn't exactly seem like a reputable source. If he comes on here and explains his rumor, then maybe I'll give him a little more credit. But in all honesty, its only the beginning of February, there's no link or explanation behind any of this. It looks to me like Truth is doing a little fishing here.

  • I'm reading these comments here, and it's baffling to me how people have actually said "WE NEED REGGIE BROWN". WHAT???? He is an average, at best, reciever in the NFL. He has NO consistency whatsoever, and to even contemplate for one minute of turning this deal down, would be idiotic!!!! Williams had 63 receptions for 836 yards and five touchdowns IN 12 GAMES THIS SEASON!!!!!!! Look at what Reggie Brown did, and then match up the fact that Roy Williams will have McNabb throwing him the ball........If the trade goes through, and McNabb stays healthy (I know the stars would have to allign for that to happen), then Williams will have at least 12 TD's & over 1,200 Yards. I love this trade, and if the Eagles make this happen, they have taken care of there Wideout issue. They are basically STEALING ROY WILLIAMS!!!!!! They can then focus on the Defensive side of the ball.

Reggie Brown isn't terrible. He had a slow start then really came on the 2nd 1/2 of the year. He had a solid rookie season & a very good 06 season so much most people thought Reggie was destined to be 1 of the better Wr's in the game due to the fact that he got better every year. Now because he struggled some in 07 he now all of a sudden sucks & is a no talent Bum. Some of you people are a joke. Reggie Brown although not a "stud #1 WR" is a still a good #2 WR w/ the Talent to be more than that. He just needs to be more consistant from week 1 til seasons end.

Since Detroit is in such need for secondary help I think these "trade talks" may possibly be for CB SHELDON Brown rather than Reggie Brown. Word is were going to go hard after another starting caliber CB in FA & w/ Sheldon spouting off at the mouth recently & throwing teammates (McNabb) & coaches under the bus Sheldon is seemingly trying to work his way out the door & I think he's the Brown that could find himself on his way w/ a draft pick to detroit for Roy Williams.

if you people think that roy williams isn't as good as ocho cinco, or fitzgerald you all are insane. just b/c his numbers were down somewhat last year, doesn't mean that he isn't that type of caliber of a player. the reason the lions would do this is b/c roy wants out of detroit. and reggie hasn't lived up to his potential. best move for a team to do when your red zone offense was lacking. and to comment on the todd heap circle, your full of it. eagles just franchised lj smith, who is healthy now and wants to play for the eagles and for a big contract. so there. and one last thing, why would the eagles get rid of sheldon or lito, there the best cornerbacks since troy and bobby, so don't even go there. thank you from a fan of donavan mcnabb-- MVP-- MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mcnabb needs a big name like Roy Williams. I don't like T.O. but when Mcnabb had T.O. the Eagles went to the Super Bowl. It's that simple. Big reciever for Mcnabb = Big game for Eagles.

    • you're an idiot. TO didn't even play in the playoffs. The Eagles record the year before TO got here: 12-4. Their record when he was here: 13-3. Thats a one game improvement (and remember, TO got hurt and missed a few games during the regular season). Then look at the playoffs. Do you know what TO's record in the playoffs with the Eagles is? 0-1. THE EAGLES NEVER WON A PLAYOFF GAME WITH TERRELL OWENS!!!!!! Why does everyone insist that TO got us over the "hump." We beat the Vikings and the Falcons in the playoffs WITHOUT TO!!!!
Its as simple as this - if you dont know how good Roy Williams is, you know nothing about football.
To the guy that said Ocho Cinco runs great routes - you, sir, are a moron. The whole reason he's a problem in Cincy is that he can't take it when Carson Palmer calls him out on his mistakes. What, pray tell are those mistakes? I'll tell you - RUNNING THE WRONG ROUTES!!!! CJ plays in a system with a #1 caliber receiver on the opposite side (and no, Calvin Johnson is not a #1 caliber receiver, YET), a power runner that defenses have to respect, and a very accurate passer.
Then this crap about Fitz. He's not even the best receiver on his team. I'd take Boldin any day over Fitz because Boldin can stay healthy. Fitz gets hurt more than Williams, and would be far far more expensive. Plus, everyone who knows anything about Fitzgerald knows that he's going to Minnesota when he leaves Arizona. He was a ballboy for the Vikes and thats always where his heart remained. He was happy in Arizona because Dennis Green (the Vikes coach when Fitz was the ball boy, as well as a good friend of Fitz's father, Larry Sr.) was the coach.
Roy Williams is big, fast, and won't cost the Eagles a ridiculous amount (in trade or his contract when it expires after this year). He also provides leadership that we need (and certainly wouldn't get from Chad Johnson).
And finally, to all of you that think the Eagles aren't giving up enough in this rumor...I agree, but what you need to remember is that Roy Williams contract is up after this year, and the Lions know they won't be able to re-sign him (not with the $$ they're paying Calvin Johnson and all the needs on OL and defense), so they need to get something for him, even if its not market value. This happens in sports all the time - the Twins took a bucket of balls and 2 hot dog vouchers from the Mets for Santana. Why? because they knew they couldn't re-sign him and had to get something for him. The Lions aren't winning the super bowl this year so they need to start looking at the future. The future in Detroit clearly does not include Roy Williams - anyone can see that.
  • If the Eagels want R.Williams they will be forced to give up a first rounder or R.Brown and a 2nd rounder for Williams.

I do not like the trade. Reggie is apart of our future. He'll have his coming out party real soon. In the meantime, we should pick up a bigger reciever. like larry or even bernard berrian in chicago. Get some money back by releasing kearse, howard, and maybe a couple of others. the eagles have a young talented squad and will be a contender for a couple of years. going young to old for a wish of one or two good yrs is bogus. i want a dynasty. consistency. resigning lj was a good step. pickin up a "ready to play" draft pick will be even better. And please, get off D Mac, I need to get all of that 99 mill he's worth. Plus, that's my man. There's no super bowl without him!

Obviously, there is no real "source" to this trade. Matt Millen is an idiot, but Reggie Brown and a 4th Round pick is nowhere near the haul it would take to bring Williams in. Teams don't normally trade prototype number 1 recievers for prototpye number 4 recievers.

Can u imagine For Slot Recievers Kevin Curtis P. Price and Greg Lewis we be better than the Patriots in terms of Slot Recievers.... Reason being is that these Guys are Twice as Fast than Wes Welker Kevin I think and Greg Lewis Being the Faster players... Lets See Let me know Guys

    • Price didn't do good in Dallas. They're, as much as I hate to say it, pretty good. Plus, its not for lack of PT. Terry Glenn was out and Crayton was hurt and TO is always banged up. He had his chance with a good team and a, ugh, decent qb.

The thing is, Price did do good his first time around with the Bills - thats why the Falcons paid dearly for him. But he was good with the Bills because of Eric Moulds.
  • Reggie makes between 1 and 2 million a year.....So to us, we consider him another Jerry Rice.....time is yours....

  • Yeah have you heard of the Term under used dude when he played twice against the Patriots Defense at that very position he Lit them up for touchdowns n plus yardages he is good he is just under used but thats for Slot Receiver similar to LJ smith in some aspects not for a Wide Out receiver Yeah Freakin Right im not Stupid to ever say that........

    • Greg Lewis has had success when teams decide to not cover him. Why cover him - half the time he makes a catch he falls down (maybe its in the name - Chad Lewis did the same stuff)

Philadelphia's problem is wen we do get receivers we get guys who are unproven as #1's and the coaching staff tries to prepare them to do sumthin that they've neva done.. we need 2 jus be bold and starting signin ppl like no 2morro like we did in "04' wen we got T.O

  • Can you guys imagine Philly Getting Keyshawn Johnson they say on Yahoosports that he is Itching to play again and if he is i'd be very careful the man is a dangerous reciever i think Philly should Get him n give him a great deal....

There are less than 2 weeks left in FA............ I hope Eagles Wise up in these Few Days and try to offer the likes of Keyshawn Johnson a Hefty deal something in the ball park of a 4-5 yr deal i think he can help the Eagles win a Superbowl and he knows the NFC like the back of his hand with Tampa Dallas and Carolina Come on eagles Do your Thing I wonder if Mushin M. Is able to help us out but he is old so i dont know if he will last in the yrs ahead we need someone young or semi young with Experience Please all im asking is Dont let Parcells get Keyshawn Johnson Cuz if he is on the Fins he wont get any where cuz they are gonna need some reconstruction with Philly he is able to adapt so easily And he can help us win

  • As a lions fan I would be heart broken if Roy left. him and calvin will be unstoppable together once cj matures and they get that running game on track. If the lions were forced to part ways with # 11 I hope they get more than reggie brown and a 4th. williams is one of the most dominent younger recievers in the nfc, maybe the league. I'd say he's worth reggie brown and a 1st rounder, if you are set on trading him to the eagles

I'd love it if the Eagles got Roy Williams. He's a big WR and we all saw what Eli Manning did with a big wideout, he won the superbowl!!! I'd make the trade and then get secondary help.

  • you guys need to start watching the games im not saying that Reggie Brown is the greatest reciever in all of football but the guy led our team with 8 touchdown passes in 2006 when everyones favorite Daunte stallworth was on the team. Reggie led our team and hes also one of the youngest starters on our team he made some great plays in 07 that were cancelled out by penalties, like im saying hes no #1 yet but he is a #2 i do agree we need an elite, he would spread the d and help make plays. you philly fans want stars out of nowhere football takes time and experience
