What if Brady's shoe was on Vince Young's foot?

What if Brady's shoe was on Vince Young's foot? You have two high-profile quarterbacks go down with knee injuries on the opening Sunday of the NFL season. One, a Super Bowl winning quarterback. The other, a college national championship winning quarterback. Yet since Tom Brady went down with a knee injury, all we've heard about is how his absence will cost the Patriots a chance at the Super Bowl and how he's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Meanwhile, we've barely heard anything on Vince Young's injury, other than he's out 2-4 weeks. Yes, Young is on a smaller market team, he hasn't done much since coming into the league and Brady's injury appears to be far more serious. But I ask you this ? what if Young's injury put him out for the season, and Brady's was only a 2-4 week shelving? I think the reactions would be THE EXACT SAME! We'd still be hearing about what Brady's loss would mean to the Patriots, and we'd barely hear anything about Kerry Collins taking over for Young. Is the media treating this with a racial bias? Is anyone surprised?

That's ridiculous. IF VY was gone for the year, that would be a huge deal, especially after the way their defense handled the Jags on Sunday. Put it this way: if McNabb and VY got hurt for the same amount of time, McNabb's injury would be way bigger news.

  • This is in no way a racial bias. You yourself say that Brady is a Super Bowl winning QB (3 times) in addition to being NFL MVP and record holder for most TDs in a season. Vince Young has been a non-player for several seasons. The difference between Tom Brady and Matt Cassell and the difference between Vince Young and Kerry Collins is substantial. Furthermore, the NFL as a whole loses when its best quarterback, Tom Brady (debate this if you wish but everyone who knows, coaches and commentators all place Brady as No.1) is out for the season, seriously hurting the competition within the sport as a whole.

  • Please leave race out of this. Tom Brady won 3 Superbowls and Vince Young has yet to prove himself in this league. Furthermore, his biggest headline thus far is he almost retired after his rookie season. They MAY make relatively similar paychecks, but Vince Young is not to the Titans as Tom Brady is to the Patriots. Make no mistake...on the field I HATE Tom Brady...off the field, I hope he finds peace in his injury and motivation to fight his way back to the top.
As for if the shoe was on the other foot; it's impossible to tell if Tom Brady would have received more coverage if he was out 2-4 weeks because it's a hypothetical. Even if it was the other way, does it really even matter? Tom Brady is more important to the Patriots than Vince Young is to the Titans.
I hate to see race come into the equation. I sincerely hope race is not the underlying factor. Perhaps there are some shades of racism etched deep down on a subconcious level. I highly doubt there is a concious effort to diminish Vince Young based on race. He simply isn't a record-setting, Superbowl winning quarterback..or even a playoff winning quarterback for that matter. If/when he become that consistent, you will see more coverage on him and his importance to the team. At least that's my opinion.

  • The QB at my high school bruised his knee this week, but the media has ignored it. Must be racism.

  • I am as big a fan of VY as you are going to find, but let's face it he has not performed up to standards expected of him. I know the argument, he just wins. I've been using it quite a bit in defense of him. However, most "he just wins" qbs actually protect the ball. VY has been aweful in this area.
Most TN fans probably feel the team has a better shot with Collins than it does with VY. Dominating defense, with a ball control - low turnover- offense. That's how the Ravens did it a few years back. I want VY to play somewhere where he can just be VY. But, like Michael Vick, he has to realize that in the NFL, a lot of guys on defense are just as fast as he is, so he won't be able to run past everyone to day light like he did in college and high school, so he has go to be a more accurate passer.

  • What's ridiculous is that you have the nerve to speak of Young in the same breath as Brady. Ridiculous comparison!!! Young is in the bottom third of all quarterbacks in the NFL, including some second stringers. Brady's won multiple Superbowl, case over. Check the mirror for the one filtering by race you hypocrite!

Agreed with the people who said this was ridiculous. Media bias? More like a talent bias. Brady has a by far bigger injury, is by far a better player. Brady has thrown more TD's in last year than Young has thrown his 2 years in the NFL. People tend to forget VY's TD-INT total is 21-30. He's thrown more picks than TD's. VY is one of the most overrated players in the NFL. I wouldn't have a problem if they showed more emphasis on a TB 2-4 week injury than a VY season ender. Brady is that much better.

I still say no bias, but VY isn't as bad as the above commentators state.

  • I live in Nashville and like allot of people think the Titans missed the boat by not taking Jay Cutler so I guess
we are all racist ?????????????? We loved Steve Mc Nair because he could play and had a great heart something VY lacks. VY is the laughing stock of the NFL because he sucks not because he is black.
You are the one being racist .........................

Vince Young was a one year flash in the pan, folks. He can't pass worth a flip and if it wasn't for his legs in year number one, he wouldn't have done crap then either. Comparing him to Brady is total nonsense.

hey, how are u doing? man...I've said all I can say Sunday and a little last night...just trying to move on and root for NE Team in week 2...and those Jets have it all laying at their feet...I hope somehow, as NE will rush the ball 40-50 times a game now, they can somehow evolve into a 200 yrd/per team...we'll see...but keep on fighting Pink...Kraft built this NE house and the front door is broken, but if FO stays intact and BB signed thru 2013, team will be elite again...not this year, but elite again

All is not lost. Maybe Cassell comes out and hangs 300 yards and a couple of touchdowns on the boy wonder, Mangini, and the Pats go back to Foxboro with big smiles on their faces.

ha ha that would be the day. It is nice to dream a lot.

  • Are you trying to pull some cards? To make this simple for people, look at Madden ratings and subtract between starter and back up and you'll see which is the bigger deal.
