What are NFL fans opinion of Commisioner Roger Goodell? I like him.
I read an interesting article today on ESPN about NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell and what some players think of Commisioner Roger Goodell and his hard line stance and penalties on players and coaches who dont behave and do wrong things. Personally I like him, he cares about the game and some players like the Giants Osi Umineoria like him. Others like Jonathon Vilma who was suspended for a year for the Saints bounties, Steelers linebacker James Harrison who Goodell has fined for cheap hits and others dont like him. Of course he's taking money off their paychecks and suspending them from games. As I said I personally like his hard line stance arrests and problems are down and he makes those who err in good judgement pay for their actions harshly with suspensions and fines. Some think taking away harsh hits and protecting the quarterback will lead to flag football. Last I saw the playoffs and Super Bowl with The New York Giants defeating the New England Patriots 21-17 was a pretty good game and played well and clean. Roger Goodell doesnt want to take away hard hitting football. Football is a rough game and players have concussions. He wants to do as much as he can to have safety in the game and take away cheap shots and bounties to specifically injure other players. The Saints were warned of their actions with the bounties and refused to take action to stop them. So Goodell had no choice reasonably but to penalize them for their actions. I think he is the best and hands on commisioner in sports. The players agreed to have Roger Goodell have this kind of control in the last collective bargaining agreement so some in the players organization wanted these changes in safety and for the good of the game. It is only the malcontents such as some of the Saints players or James Harrison among others who want different because they are getting caught and penalized for their actions. I wish their was some kind of penalty for some of the fans actions when they behave stupidly as well. Take away priviliges for access to the games especially attending them. Good sportsmanship should be on and off the field alike. Please let me know some of your opinions to Roger Goodell and the NFLs actions. I think in the end it is and will be a better game because of Roger Goodell's proactive actions as commisioner of the NFL. Best wishes Bratman

I gave this subject matter some thought...and am trying to be "fair" in my assessment! ") However, this is only my personal opinion ~ nothing more.
I really did like Goodell when he first came on board. I realize the decisions he has had to make have not been easy ones. Seemingly "with the players" in the beginning ~ has now turned more so to the owners. I, also, realize in dealing with state politics and politicians ~ what compromises are made for the "good" of their respective districts, with the whole state in mind ~ but not necessarily affected in the same way.... but they must do what is necessary to get the $$! Goodell has a very large job in overseeing all aspects of the NFL ~ and I'm sure very frustrating and trying at times. He seems to have handled most very well ~ just of late, has seemed somewhat biased. As far as player discipline ~ he certainly has taken the bulls by the horn regarding "bounty"and other player situations.I just wish he would address the education of the officials and suggesting "$ penalties"for them as well. We had way too many games last year that were decided by the officiating. But,I'm sure that is another story all in itself. Once one sees the fine works by polictical influences ~ one sees very real similiarities in the "public" world as well. So, who learned from whom? This was a great read and very good points made. But,we are going to see some major changes that will make our football enjoyment ho-hum. For the good of the players? In some cases, yes. Or,saving the owner's far more $$'s on healthcare and maintenance. Double-edged sword syndrome? Not really.
I am impressed to know that, much like the military, NFL players can go back to college and have a "full" ride to complete their education. This gives them some support for a future they hardly have any experience in ~ to actually know what "every day people" do to provide for their family and future for many years to come. That is a fact I did not realize. Pretty cool.
You have a great day!! Check with you later ~ always, Eli-B -
