Tell Your Fellow Yardies the Most Embarrassing Moment You’ve Had While Playing a Sport or Sport Activity

Following in the lead of my twin “Hockeychick” to get some fun back in the Yard, keeping it light and letting our fellow Yardbarkers take a good look at each other, I thought a lighthearted article to expose our ‘pink underbellies’ with some of our less than glorious moments would be fun. Here is my ‘exposed underbelly’ as embarrassing as it was:

I had been surfing about 5 years at this point when I entered a small surf contest and had some friends there to cheer me on. “You are going to do great. We can’t wait to see some of those moves you’ve been working on” and so forth.

Gracefully I make my way down to the water to enter as entry number 61! I walk my way out until I have to get ready to duck dive the bigger waves. I jumped onto my board and at the same time pushed down on the rails into the larger wave, when the board slipped from my hands clocked my straight in the kisser so hard it felt like a sledge hammer and for kicks, the board and the wave decided to follow-up with another uppercut. Wham! Waves, hair, feet, board and blood all came tumbling back to the shore. Gasps, mainly from me, choking out water and blood, lip split open and nose painfully gushing blood was a lovely site to see I’m sure.

There I was laid out like a beached whale that had just been harpooned. Medic!

Here comes the EMT’s with the gurney, ice bags are being placed on me, gauze and other lovely things are being applied to my face.

Through all the concerned voices, I hear this other surfer come up and say “That was the knarliest (yeah we really use that term) wipeout I’ve ever seen of someone entering the water!”………through all the gauze and ice packets on my face, came “thuthnk oouth” and then I was off on a cozy ride to the hospital.
