Yet another blow...
I have been training at the Olympic Training Center since the 2003-2004 season and the complete and utter bullshit that us athletes have dealt with then, still continues throughout 2009. Nearly all track athletes suffer from A.D.D, A.D.H.D, or severe impatience, so what we crave more than anything is a solid foundation and consistency from our agents, managers, coaches and training facilities. Once an athlete leaves the collegian system, they enter the world of a "forced nomadic lifestyle". Perhaps we suffer from none of the above, but obsess about people doing their job, so that we can do ours!!! My patience has been shot to hell and tested beyond belief, so much so that I can no longer get upset, I just voice my opinion to the "higher up" and move on, laughing in disappointment, shaking my head in disbelief as to say "they just don't get it".
There are a few things I know about how my career is going to go, I will open big: be ranked top 5 in the world. I will get injured right before USA Championships: 2004 torn abs, 2005 torn hamstring, 2006 parasites and allergic reaction to the meds, 2007 Broken Fibula and ankle, 2008 torn shoulder, 2009 torn pateller retinaculum and a deep bone bruise (knee injury). I will recover, cause I am a beast like that, I accept injury as a nudge from GOD, cause I'm kinda stubborn, and often need a kick from the man upstairs. and finally these "higher ups" will find some way to screw it up!
So...The day after USA Champs, we received news that our coach will no longer be coaching at the OTC. WHAT A BLOW...so, I have been both very understanding, yet very irritated and at times irate. Dan Pfaff, who is worldly known as one of the few, yet very best coaches in the world. HOW IN THE HELL COULD THE OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER, the USO let him go, and lose him to the Great Britain, the BRITTS...GOODNESS. I love my coach, we have a great relationship unlike one that I have had with any other coach, or most people for that matter. We are bonded and it goes beyond the track, so to see him leave is hard, but I am happy for him. This man has gone through it all and has experienced the worse, has fought to the death for athletes and programs, trying to make changes and I have witness his fight, his struggle, his pain and stress, his mood swings, his compromise, his sacrifice....I am so in awe of this man, he inspires me to no end. and while the outsides may call him a trader, simply cause they have no clue to what the hell is going on, I will say this is an amazing opportunity for him, and no one in their right main would reject this opportunity. So instead of saying why did he leave, people need to ask why couldn't they keep him? Why every single year there is a major change in coaching and administrative staff? why can't they keep anyone? what the hell is going? Infact, ask why is Great Britian making major moves and buying up all the world's best coaches, making major investments for the 2012 Olympics, while the USA is losing ALL of their best coaches to other countries (Randy Hunington is coaching Korea, there are more...), It's not the coaches who are selling out. The USA gives them no choice, they all would love to stay home and coach American athletes...the USA wants medals but they don't wanna pay for it, they have this arrogance that because we always lead the medal count... or that we can do it without the best coaches, they are WRONG. I do applaud the fight of Tracy Lamb of the USOC, who fought like hell along the side of Dan to change this program for the best interest of the athletes, unfortunately the fight was lost and we athletes lost again.
So now, Mr. Pfaff leaves behind over 15 athletes who are ALL worldly ranked, not because he wanted to, because he rejected them several times, but because he really had no option. We are all like " where do we go from here?"...so where do I go from here? we have been discussing this...it is all up in the air... Do i move to London? Do I stay here and be coached through him via email/video and make trips to London? Do I move to Atlanta and be coached by his "twin soul"? Do I embrace whomever they bring into the OTC next?
Same crap, different year, damn USA get it together... CONGRATS TO GREAT BRITAIN
Then again, since the shit is out there world wide, and everyone is discussing it....The selfish actions of one, has such power to affect many. Yes I am speaking of Marion Jones.
