MMA With In Reach Of Ontario Fans

The MMA event W1: High Voltage www.w1mma.com is as close as Ontario fans can get to watching a live MMA event. One of the advantages of having two provinces fit together like a jig-saw puzzle.
All that is needed is for the Ontario government to acknowledge that it enjoys the tax dollars from hundreds of MMA schools currently in operation in the province of Ontario. Thousands train in the sport every day with in Ontario's boarders yet it is illegal to hold an event. Perhaps yet another sold out event in Montreal this spring will act as a wake up call to the millions in revenue our province loses each year the government continues to drag it's heels on the issue.
In the mean time I will be happy to take my dollars to support the Quebec government's decision to legalize Mixed Martial Arts approximately 10 years ago.
I will proudly cheer on the fighters from the Ottawa Academy Of Material Arts www.oama.ca who have been training hard in Ontario.
I will also be looking forward to seeing members of the Gracie family coming to our area in December 2009 to compete. Check out www.wreckmma.com for details.

Adrian Wooley Wins by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in Round 5 over Remy Morvan(oama.ca). Our guy Remy came up against a tough wrestler who broke Remy's nose in the first and hung tough for the rest of the fight.
Mitch Gagnon Wins by Rear Naked Choke at 4:39 in Round 1 over Jeff Harrison(oama.ca) who stepped in on short notice to replace an injured fighter.
Nabil Khatib who was sparing with Robert Devain in Montreal won his fight via Guillotine at 4:06 in Round 1

Ontario is an old school run province because of the government. There is still a high percentage of the population who think MMA is human **** fighting.
There will have to be a lot of education before we will see a change in Ontario (it's too bad).
I don't know why more single women go to MMA events? the ratio is very much in there favor. Most of my single friends who are into MMA find a woman's stock goes way up when she knows just as much about the sport as they do.

All I know it was a good showing by both fighters. Carlos was stronger and faster but Shonie is very elusive and experienced with over 70 pro fights. He didn't make it easy for Newton.

Saturday night saw the return of MMA action to Gatineau, Quebec as Warrior 1 MMA presented High Voltage at the Robert Guertin arena... the main event pitted Canada's first UFC champion, Carlos Newton against the battle tested Shonie Carter. The bout was supposed to be a 5 round welterweight title fight but Newton missed weight by an astonishing 10 pounds due to an undisclosed medical issue and after surrendering a percentage of his purse to carter, the two fought a three round non title affair. Carter utilized his unorthodox striking techniques to take the first round from the rather sluggish Ronin. However Newton got better as the fight progressed and tried repeatedly to put away the MMA fashion plate with a variety of submissions that Mr. International was able to escape. In the end, Newton recorded his second consecutive victory for the upstart Canadian promotion as all 3 judges scored it 29-28 for the Newmarket, Ontario resident.
The co-feature saw Adrian Wooley capture the vacant W-1 Featherweight title with a dominant 5 round unanimous decision victory over Remy Morvan. The former Canadian Freestyle Wrestling team member used his superior grappling skills to repeatedly take down Morvan who was unable to exploit his sizeable reach advantage. Scores were 50-45 twice and 50-44 for the former TKO bantamweight kingpin. For complete coverage of the event, tune in to this week's edition of the MMA show.
