Love it or Hate it the Art of Trash Talking is a skill... that can either help or hurt a competitor. Talking Trash should only be used to gain some type of an advantage over your opponent and not just because you simply like to hear yourself talk.

Some do it, Some refrain by it and some live by it. In sport... Trash Talking is the norm and can be heard at almost any event. There are many different forms of Trash Talking and many different types of Trash Talkers, but one thing is for certain... if you cant back it up, Youll eat your words !!

Some competitors dont even need words... a look will do. Stare-Downs for instance at weigh-ins, or in the center of the octagon just before a fight are used as a means of intimidation.

The whole idea behind Trash Talking is to take your opponent out of his game through intimidation or insults, reminding him of an advantage you feel you may have over him. Your intention is to have your opponent to become so concerned with the actual Trash Talk, that he spends less time focusing on his strengths or gameplan, things he needs to do. When done correctly, it can be a beautiful thing to witness...

There are many different types of Trash Talkers, the problem is the most common types are Loud Mouths. The Loudmouths dont talk trash to gain a competitive advantage, but rather do it simply because they like to hear themselves talk.
