Is D'Antoni a Smart Choice for Chicago?

The Bulls seem intent on naming Mike D'Antoni as their next head coach. Is it the best choice they could possibly make, or are there better options still on the market?

I heard that he's leaning toward the Knicks?

I hear the Knicks offered him a $30 million five-year contract but he's still waiting for the Bulls to match it (only Phil Jackson and Pat Riley have/had bigger contracts). Apparently Chicago is where he'd really like to be, rather than New York.

A decision will probably be made by Monday.
I say he'll be headed to New York.

Looks like a decision was actually made this morning.

D'Antoni to the Knicks, it's official.

The Knicks recently jumped into the picture by offering a 5 year deal. D'Antoni would like to hear the Bulls' offer before making a decision, but Chicago might take until the end of the weekend to actually extend the offer. It looked like the Knicks were going to hire Mark Jackson, but apparently his interview was less than impressive and now the Knicks are leaning towards hiring a more experienced coach.

The money numbers being tossed around regarding the new york offer are mind-boggling.

If I were D'Antoni, I would wait for the Bulls offer. I just don't have a good feeling about the Knicks gig. Sure, it's high profile. But what can be done to turn that pit around in 5 years? It's not just a coaching problem there, the whole place is just festering with bad mojo (on and off the court). Who are they going to unload (Marbury, Curry, Crawford, Randolph)? And who's going to want any of them at their pricetags with their baggage? They HAVE to toss around mind-boggling money to get any sane coach to go near that place. But I guess we'll see!

  • The coach to chicago--I would not touch the nicks--to much money going out---Only if he is money driven he will take that job!!!!!The bulls has the best up side period--they got players

Take the Bulls job, Mike. And then the Suns can find out just how good a coach you really were. Phoenix and Dallas both messed up by making trades that their coaches weren't in favor of. D'Antoni is going to be glad to get out of there just as Avery was in Dallas.
