MJ to Kobe: You couldn't guard me

Michael Jordan was putting on a basketball clinic at what looks like UCSB, and during a Q&A session, a camper asks him who would win, he or Kobe Bryant. MJ responds with the expected comeback: "Now? He would because I'm old. But in my prime, no way. I have a better chance at stopping him than he does me". I agree with that 100%, but I think it's funny that he's probably dead serious. Then the rest of the video is MJ schooling and dunking on campers. Check it out.

How long ago was this video made? He still got them skills, and if you doubt what he says then you are probably too young to remember MJ in his prime.

    Great Post.

Kobe Bryant couldn't guard me and nobody could ever guard the great Michael Jordan. The Celtics exposed Kobe without Shaq.

  • the sad thing is MJ now that he is older is still better than a lot of these "Pros" in the NBA that make Millions of Dollars.

Nowadays it pays just to be BIG. =P'

      I wouldnt be so sure
  • A zone defense would've exposed MJ the same way it had exposed KB24

  • Just watched the video and the little kid at 4:10 does pretty good footwork keeping in front of MJ. If he was near his height, he might have given him a little "trouble". Good thing he is 5 ft tall for MJ. lol

Sweet, UCSB Represent! I went there back in 2001 - 2005 for my undergrad compsci degree (now working here at the yard ;) and every August he'd hold Flight camp at the gym (the Thunder Dome). MJ also owns the bar downtown Santa Barbara called O'Mally's I think, and guest bartends sometimes.

I saw MJ playing with a few middle school kids once in a scrimmage and was owning. He made a crazy 3 pointer fade away, it was great.

MJ is awesome, I'm glad he's still able to play and go strong. Lucky kids there though who get to play against and get coached by him. What a great dream come true.

IMHO, i have argued both sides of this.. either is valid.. kobe better than mj.. mj better than kb24.. let's just say this.. mj wouldn't have been mj without pippen.. that's a fact but to what extent does that play into mj being better than kobe..

look at this stat.. bulls with just pippen, and no jordan, win 55 games in 94 and make playoffs when some years before that without pippen they don't even make playoffs

Now lakers in 2005 without shaq and with just kobe make playoffs

Kobe and Lebron have both done what Jordan couldn't... they've single handedly led teams to the playoffs.

    just sayin

    • naah.. sorry, you are comparing teams, this comparison is about the players.. the question you want to ask yourself is if you put MJ in today's league wherein you just get hit a little on the hand how much would he score against the Raptors? on the other hand, if you put Kobe in the Bad Boy Era wherein they get away with dirty hits how would he do? Would he have been able to score 63 against Larry Bird's / Kevin Mchale's / Robert Parish's Celtics?

As for Kobe and Lebron being able to do what MJ couldn't. sorry, wrong again, if you look at the good teams now compared to back then, there are probably less than 5 teams today as opposed to the 80's / 90's teams with the Bad Boys (Detroit), Lakers with Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Byron Scott etc., Celtics as mentioned above, Blazers with Drexler, Porter, Kersey etc., Suns with Barley, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, etc., Warriors with Run TMC, Knicks with Ewing, Houston, Starks, etc. Utah Jazz with Stockton, Malone, Hornacek, the Sonics with Shawn Kemp & the Glove... Man I could go on and on.. You can't even compare Centers of past with those of today. Look at how the talent level has decreased over the years, nowadays it is good enough just to be big, and/or athletic. The only talented centers in the league today that come to mind are Ming, Garnett and Chris Bosh. Compare that list to Alonzo Mourning, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson and they are on different levels..

I mean no disrespect, but I really think you are too young to understand, take it from your elders. ;)
