T-Mac to Give Up All-Star Spot, Who Gets It?

As of now, I'm not playing."-Tracy McGrady, Houston Chronicle As of the fourth returns, Allen Iverson would get the start to replace the injured T-Mac and Shawn Marion would get bumped into the 2008 All-Star Game. But even NBA players know that there are other players who are more deserving to be in the game. So what other guards have had a great season? Chris Paul PPG 22.1 RPG 4.8 APG 8.2 SPG 2.5 One of the best point guards in the NBA and he's not going to the All-Star Game in the city he plays in. After a strong start in the league's toughest divison, Paul and the Hornets are looking to finally clinch a playoff spot and are currently holding the 5th seed in the West. He leads the league in steals in is #3 in APG. He's even been talked about as one of the top MVP canidates early in the year. He might not get his chance this year, but he'll definitely get it in the future. Baron Davis PPG 22.1 RPG 4.8 APG 8.2 SPG 2.5 He's helped the Golden State Warriors make another playoff run this year hanging on with the 8th seed so far. He's the #2 steals leader and is in the top 15 in 19 categories, many of them top 10. He's put up All-Star numbers this year and has already been there twice, but with a few people in front of him in voting, it doesn't look like he'll get it this year. Kevin Martin PPG 25.2 RPG 4.7 APG 2.0 SPG 1.4 When you make 21/25 shots (84%) for 64 points through 2 games coming off an injury, including 39 on the Mavs on 14/16 (87.5%) shooting, doesn't that say All-Star? Martin's averaged 28.6 PPG through 3 games upon his return. Every time he steps into a game, he's scored double digits. If his scoring still qualified, he would be #5. One of the most efficient scorers in the league and will make even the toughest shots go in. Deron Williams PPG 19.5 RPG 3.0 APG 9.2 SPG 1.1 When you talk about top young point guards, he's in the discussion. He ranks right behind Chris Paul in assists at #4. He helped lead the Utah Jazz to the Western Conference Finals last year with 19.2 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 8.6 APG and 1.5 SPG in the playoffs. Now he's going over those averages this year. Sitting at ninth in the West the Jazz are still in the hunt and they're 1 game away from completing half of their season. They might be down but definitely not out. Brandon Roy PPG 19.1 RPG 4.5 APG 5.7 SPG 0.9 Wow, talk about a complete turnaround. The 2006 ROY has led the Blazers to win 18/21 games, including 13 straight, right after losing 9/10 games. He helped revive Portland after what seemed to be a hopeless year. Now, his team is #4 in the West, right behind the Lakers. He's the leader of a young, playoff bound team. He can get a shot inside or outside and distribute the ball. He's a star in this league. Kevin Durant PPG 19.8 RPG 4.3 APG 2.2 SPG 0.9 BPG 1.1 The best rookie scorer in the league and a strong canidate for Rookie of the Year, Durant has put up similar numbers to what LeBron did in his rookie season. He's 6'9 who mostly covers SG but can handle small forward and maybe can handle to power forward a few years from now. But at SG, no one can block his shot because of his height and long arms and he can block a shot. He is a star and will be an All-Star in the future. All of these players will be in an All-Star game in the future, but for now, keep up the good work.

For everything he has done for Portland...he deserves it.
The West is deep though, damn. There's so many great guards.
It's going to be interesting to see who gets the spot.
