NHL Expanding?
The NHL is rumored to be adding expansion teams in Las Vegas and Kansas City. Now you might be thinking, "Expanding the NHL? Are you insane, Gary Bettman?" But, if there's a fan base to be had, is it really that bad of an idea? Take Kansas City, they have a stadium built just waiting for someone to occupy it. They were first in line chomping at the bit to get the Penguins when they were thinking of leaving Pittsburgh. There is clearly a desire for hockey in that city. And if the NHL were the first one's to make it to Vegas, it may give the league a real shot in the arm. I think athletes would be lining up to get a chance to play down on the Strip. And if you get guys who want to play there, you'll get people who want to come watch. All you need is a base. That's why the Wild have thrived and the Predators haven't. The Preds may have more superstars, but Minnesota has the fan support. You get a fan base, you get success. That's why I think expansion may not be as terrible an idea as it first sounds.
